Confused About Buying LG Chocolate

I am really interested in buying the LG Chocolate, it will be my first cell phone, so I am buying it online at Verizon. It says that you can buy 2GB of memory on the site. Do I need that much? Can I buy a different size memory card and add it to the phone? Does anyone know approximately how many songs the phone with 1GB can hold? 512MB? 128MB? Also, if I buy the phone online from Verizon what model am I getting, the KG800, VX8500, etc. What is the difference? Which is the best one? Someone help me, please.

Thanks, in advance.

Re: Confused About Buying LG Chocolate

If I were buying a music player phone, I'd want the largest memory card available simply because you can store a lot more music. As to how much it holds, I'm not sure (if the average mp3 is around 5mb, I'm going to estimate that a 2GB card would hold somewhere around 400 songs). To answer your last question, the VX8500 is the Verizon Chocolate and the KG800 is the original Korean Chocolate for SK Telecom, which is not entirely compatible with any USA carrier.

Edit: I found some info on Verizon's site about the memory card capacities...

Quote:
Card Size Encode Rate Typical Scenario
256 MB: @64kbps = ~128 songs or 8 hours
512 MB: @64kbps = ~256 songs or 17 hours
...1 GB: @64kbps = ~513 songs or 34 hours
(Typical scenario for songs downloaded over the air directly to the phone)

256 MB: @160kbps = ~51 songs or 3 hours
512 MB: @160kbps = ~102 songs or 7 hours
...1 GB: @160kbps = ~205 songs or 14 hours
(Typical scenario for songs purchased from the PC client and then synched to the phone via USB cable)

Re: Confused About Buying LG Chocolate

I Don't Know If You Have Purchased Your Chocolate Yet But This Is My Experience. I Bought It And Used It For A Week Before I Just Got Tired Of Hitting Buttons And Going To The Wrong Menus. Bottom Line I Am A Girl And I Have Average Size Fingers But When I Used The Touch Sensor Controls On The Outside I Would Always End Up Hitting The One Next To It As Well. And As For The 2 Gb Card Question The 2 Gb Card Is No Good For Any Lg Phone When The Card Is Formatted By The Phone Check You Memory Status And It Does Not Add Up To 2 Gb Only 1 Gb In Some Cases And In Other Cases Less. I Hope This Helps!

Also, you probably don't want the chocolate if it gets really cold during the winter where you live. There is a disclaimer on the phone not to use it under 4° fahrenheit because the touch pad is heat sensitive and won't react in cold weather. You could also try the VX8300. It will play mp3's also, but it will only support a 1GB memory card.

Re: Confused About Buying LG Chocolate

I just bought one today and I really like it, I got used to the controls right away. The speaker is really weak compared to other models, but everything else seems great. I got the 2 gig card which will hold plenty of music and pics, but you could easily get by with much less if you didn't want to spend that much.

The speaker is, in my opinion, the only real downfall of the Chocolate. If you want really good sound quality, get the stereo headphones.

Re: Confused About Buying LG Chocolate

definitely, the speaker is neither clear nor is it loud, but with the headphones music playback is pretty decent.
