#46 | | Junior Member | If you have BitPim, go to the ringtones section and click the button with the music note and the addition symbol and go from there. If you don't have BitPim, I highly recommend that you google it and use the tutorial to guide you. It helps a hell of a lot. Believe me, I became like a pro with it after using it for 3 hours. But wither way, you must use the usb cord and use BitPim to detect your phone and go from there. The tutorial should explain everything. Good luck bro.

#48 | | Newbie | Okay, I have BitPim, and I have my mp3 edited down to 20 seconds or so, set to mono, and i have the phone connected through the USB cord and everything, and it recognizes the phone.
However, when I go to get anything from my phone, or put anything on using BitPim, I get this error message:
Access Denied
Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider.
...what now? | | |

...what now? | See my other recent posts in this forum. You have v.5 or v.6 of the firmware.

#51 | | Member | My LG Chocolate's screen has gone blank. I'm so pissed off! No one seems to have an answer. Sorry for the OT post, just had to vent. Still couldn't get it to connect to bitpim either. It seems that when trying to use the USB cable you have to set your modem to on and have the phone open or something weird like that.

#54 | | Newbie | Ok so Im trying to figure out how to make my own ringtones and download them onto my chocolate phone. I downloaded Audacity, recorded an estimated 20 second clip, and used LAME to export it as an mp3. Then I downloaded BitPim and followed the instructions on this website: HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - How to Put Custom RingTone MP3s on LG VX8500 Chocolate
When it gets to the point where I have to drag my clip into the NAME/SIZE/DATA box, a box comes up saying "Exception". Some type of error occured but Im not sure what it is, or how to fix it. Any help??!

Any help??! | The instructions you followed were posted at the time of firmware v.4. Firmware v.5 and v.6 include attemps by Verizon to restrict people from using Bitpim to utilize their own free mp3 ringtones. The initial fixes were to 1) use LG download to put phone in NV Edit mode where Bitpim would still work or 2) use LG download to flash back to version 4 of the software. However I understand that the latest (possibly) beta version of Bitpim works with the newer firmware without being in NV Edit mode.
My recommendation - look in the v.5/v.6 firmware thread on Howard Forums - and READ it ALL before proceeding. I have posted a links to the various chocolate topics on Howard Forums as a sticky at the top of this forum. Alternatively, if you have a SD card, you can try the instructions I posted for ringtones on SD card (also as a sticky here). These were also written for v.4 of the firmware.
Verizon has been quite successful in reducing the number of people who are able to use their own ringtones. It's not particularly easy anymore, but I assure you it can be done. The question is how bad do you want it, and how much studying are you willing to do to accomplish it.
Good luck

However, as I have already stated, you can not use your music files as ringtones on your Verizon Chocolate. The best way to use your purchased music as ringtones for your Verizon Chocolate is to download the song to your PC. Cut the song to approximately :30 in length, then Pix Message this new file to your phone. It will end up saved in your "My Ringtones" folder, and accessible as a ringtone.
Good luck! | how do you cut the song to an appropriate length?
