Chocolate BitPim Problem

I have an LG8500 Chocolate from Telus and I am trying to connect my phone to my computer using a USB cable and using the program BitPim. When I plug my phone into my computer BitPim recognizes it, but for some reason when I go to, "Get Phone Data", it dosent want to get anything from my phone. i just get an unexpected error message. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks.

Re: BitPim Problem

I too am having problems. I have an AX5000 and have been trying to use BitPim 0.9.13 and all I see is FOUND OTHER CDMA PHONE ON COM4.
Of course, I can't see any info on the phone, much less transfer any phone numbers or wallpapers.

Any suggestions for a new user?

Re: BitPim Problem

Do you think that maybe ithas something to do with the file systems in the phone. BitPim is detecting verizon phone without verizon file systems, at least thats my opinion.

Re: Chocolate BitPim Problem

Bump! I hate to bump on my first post, but there it is. heh

I have the same problem as the first poster. I'm on Telus, and BitPim, though it does support Telus, it does not support the lg vx 8500. At least that's what I'm seeing when I use the BitPim phone wizard.

I've come this far and I refuse to believe that I'm unable to transfer files. Ugh. Sorry for my bitterness. hehe. I've just been having car issues, phone issues, and wireless network issues this week. I'm going to go bezerk!

Re: Chocolate BitPim Problem

I use BitPim all the time for my vx8550, and i have never had a problem with it. All you should have to do is update the program. The program automatically places the ringtones and wallpapers in your phone you.

Re: Chocolate BitPim Problem

I actually managed to get it working. The files are called something else on Telus I guess. It's a slow procedure having to drag and drop one song at a time when it takes about 5 minutes a song to write, but it's better than having to pay for a subscription through Telus and download songs I already own.

...now if I could just get my wireless SMB network working again. hehe Oops, wrong forum.

Re: Chocolate BitPim Problem

hello all,
i am new here and have been forum searching for a couple of hours now. i believe i might have a solution for many of you here. i have had, what seemed to be, the same problem as many that i have read here.
solution, go back to the pref in bit pim and make sure the port com is selected properly for the phone you are using.
i was having an error until i relized that even though i had selected the right option(port) for my phone, it some how did not read correctly. i have the new chocolate and an 8300. the port was still selected for my 8300 even though i chose the 8550. i reselected the right option and now have all my ringtones and custom ringtones updated to my new phone with no hasstle. try this and if it doesn't work for you, good luck. i am now still satisfied with bit pim and will recommend it to all who enjoy what we do.
by the way, i am on a macbook pro and the set up is ten million times or more easier than with a PC. sorry PC users, but once you go mac, you never go back. hope this is helpful to all and if not, reply and i will try to work out some kinks for you. steve from cali.

Re: Chocolate BitPim Problem

This is for peeps who when using BITPIM get an EMPTY "nvm" folder but will also help those having problems with BITPIM seeing the phone...

Keep in mind I used BLUETOOTH not a USB CABLE but I'm sure it would work for both.

Programs I used:

BITPIM
BlueSoleil

(I would have made these LINKS to the appropiate web site but I'm not allowed to do that just yet .. )

I did this on a WinXP system using a Mr.HandsFree Blue Dongle II

Install the BlueSoleil software

Setup your Dongle on your PC

Once you have Bluetooth enabled on your PC pair your phone using BlueSoleil
Double click your phone in the BlueSoleil window it will highlight the Services available
Right-click the Serial Port Service and connect

Once you are connected and BlueSoleil is bright green in the taskbar you can "x" out the BlueSoleil window

Now install BITPIM
Make sure your phone is paired and connected to your PC via Bluetooth and you have the Serial Port Service connected

Open BITPIM ( I'm using Ver.1.0.6 official)
Goto EDIT>SETTINGS
Make sure the Port is correct
I think the default is COM5
In the BlueSoleil Service Window the Serial Port icon will display which serial port it is using

Now choose your phone > LG VX8600 in the dropdown box (or whatever model your phone is)

Now on the left side click the 1st little phone "Get Phone DATA"
When the box pops up put a checkmark in the "Phonebook" box then click OK
An Exception Error box will popup... READ THE ERROR...you will see several trys to access the data as well as which phone...now that you see which phone they THINK you have ,(mine was the 8100 )
go back to EDIT>SETTINGS and reset your phone to the LG-VX8100
Click OK and now highlight FILE SYSTEM on the left ,a folder with a "+" sign will appear on the right in a column .. click the "+" sign..it will retreive the PHONE DATA and all the DIRECTORIES will appear under the folder.

Hope this helps
