My chocolate has died and I need advice

I already accidently posted this twice in the LG forum, and then I found this sub-forum, so yes, there are three of these threads... anyway:


Like many chocolate users I have recently experienced the complete self destruction of my phone. First the screen died, then the touch buttons, then the earpiece, until finally it stopped working entirely.

I went to the Verizon store, and the guy told me that because it was completely dead there was no way of transfering any information into my new phone... like my contacts, pictures, and downloads.

My question is this: is that true, or was he just misinformed/lazy? Because it would be unbelievably irritating to have to track down all of my numbers etc, and the pictures I would never get back. Is there any way for me to put all that information onto my new chocolate?

You can try and connect it with a USB cable. I was able to transfer files in and out via BitPim with the phone turned off.
