#1 | | Junior Member | I just discovered how to get free ringtones on your phone with only a SD card.
1. Load designated ringtone into "my_sounds" folder.
2. Go to the file, then send it to your own cellphone via picture message.
3. You will receive a message playing that sound. Open it.
4. Go to "Options," then go to "Save as ringtone."
5. Name it, and you're done!

#2 | | Newbie | Do you know the file size limit for the picture messages because when I try to send it to myself it says the file size is too big. Also do you know a program that lets me change the size of the song?

My SD card will not "show" the ringtones as ringtones unless I send it over the airways as a picture. Then I get charged for that each time.

#4 | | Newbie | When I got my AX8600 all I had to do is cut the files down and put them in my sounds diretory on the card then put them on my phone. And some of my ringtones are longer then 30 seconds, not much but I tihnk the largest that I have is 40 seconds.

#5 | | Newbie | Okay. Well I googled it and found a program called Audacity and once the song is below 30 seconds it works, but I still don't remember the file size that is.

#6 | | Newbie | I just tried this and it worked great.
You can use any mp3 splitting program that you like. I used bitpim so these directions are directed towards there.
Here are the steps that i took:
1) While in bitpim I just created a new ringtone without having a phone connected (So you do not need to have a usb cable if you do not want to buy one).
2) I set the ringtone to a bit rate of 96 and cut the song to just barely under 30 seconds and the file size just came out to 350 kb
3) right click the ringtone and save it to the "My sounds" folder on your micro sd card
4) then insert your card into your phone and go to Menu> Get it now> Music and tones> My sounds. then highlight the file and press the right soft key which is options. select send and then type in your phone number then send it
5) a few seconds later you should receive a text message from yourself and once you open it the song will play. hit the right soft key and select option 5 to save the song as a ringtone and thats it.

Impossible to compose, try another one" even though the size is only 326kb, less than the 350kb example you spoke of.

#12 | | Junior Member | Just so you know, if you want to spend a little more time, and you already have a cable, you can get ringtones fairly easily with bitpim. Just search free ringtones (on the site).
