File size of picture message?

Okay, I tried to find the answer and I couldn't so I decided to make an account and ask.

I have been using my Micro SD card for music on my 8550 and everything has been working fine. Now I want to make one of the songs my ringtone in case I don't have it on vibrate at some time. I know that you can put it in My_Sounds and then send it to yourself via Picture Message. Except when I try to do that it says that the file size is too big. Do you guys know the maximum file size for a picture message? And do you guys also know a program that allows me to just chop off the back half of the song to make it smaller?
