Chocolate only charges if I hold it

Hi all, I'm having an issue with my 2nd gen. chocolate that hasn't come up before (obviously)

when I try to charge it, whether it be from my car charger, wall charger, or usb charger, the battery only signifies charging if I hold the connecter a certain way (applying pressure downwards where it meets the phone)

I had hoped this was merely an issue with one of the chargers, but when I tried all three, it did the same thing. Could this be a battery issue where it just isn't connecting right, or could it actually be the phone itself?

I know this question has come up before on the forum, but there doesn't seem to be any answers as to WHY this happening or HOW to fix it.

Maybe the connection jack has gone bad.
After inserting the charger and/or USB cable, over time, it may have been damaged.

If the phone still takes a charge (and holds it), the battery isn't at fault.
