On the verizon network, I have a 3G and 1X bars on the top. I have been able to go into my service menu and there is an option to disable. I do not use my phone for anything but talking / textin. Will this save my battery life by using 1X only? Is there anything else that will be limited if I do this?
BTW, the phone is a Vx8575 chocolate touch

I moved this to the LG forum for you.
To answer your question, if you do not need a data connection, then yes, you can disable it. The phone will not be constantly searching for a data signal, which will save battery life. I'm not sure if you can just disable 3g though. Regardless, you wouldn't need 1x either if you don't need data.
