Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
so person from verizon, do you think there is any way that you could share your driver for a mac so i could use it so i don't have to use my friends pc. and i too got as far as getting my mp3s in the ringtone folder doing it the tree way and it says that the phone is blocked by telus also. So do i just need to get a different version of bitpim? i will try a couple things hopefully figure it out, because i am so close. Also when i click the send to phone icon it restarts my phone but i can't find it anywhere in the ringtones folder, could it have been sent to a different folder?

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
Windows drivers "DO NOT" work with Mac OS.
Totally different systems.
I had no troubles, only troubles was finding the folder. Since I can be too transparent sometimes.
What I suggested was, changing the model type on "Bitpim" to 9100 instead of the real model which is 9700.
It for me doesn't lock up on that model version.
Please refrain from using the "Get" function on Bitpim. It locks things up on various places. Like the phone, the PC, the program. Just don't use that method.
Use the tree view, restart the phone, and then turn it back on. The mp3s you had added to the ringtone folder will now be available for use.

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
So hellotruvious, i have the driver installed, and latest version of bitpim, and like your phone it comes up as other cdma, so i have tried using the tree version with both the vx9700 and vx9100, both ways i can access the ringtones folder in the brew, and sometimes it even restarts my phone for me, but when it turns back on still no ringtones on the phone. Also, i was wondering when you restart your phone does it recognize that is the vx9700 still or does it show up as "other" again. One last question, in the help section in bitpim for the dare it says to create a subdir on the sd card, transfer the files from there to bitpim then back to the phone, just wondering how to create a subdir? is it more than simply just right clicking in the micro sd card and creating a new folder called ringtones? i will fool around and see.

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
so just to get this straight. While the sd card was in the phone by going menu>settings>memory>card memory>and here i have hit format, so the phone is card is formatted to the phone. But you can't create a new folder called ringtones here because there is not that option correct? So are you saying you plugged the micro sd card into your computer and just opened it up where it displays, media, mypictures, myvideos, mymusic, and mysounds, you right clicked and created a new folder and named it ringtones? because i did this but i am not sure if that is considered a subdir, because when i plug it back in my phone and go back to the card memory there is no folder called ringtones, also after i created this folder and dragged my mp3's i wanted to use as ringtones and said get phone data and send phone data back using bitpim, in the bottom left corner in bitpim it showed it was doing something and it restarted my phone for me, but still no ringtones anywhere.

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
Well to top things off. You do not store the ringtones on the SD card.
The ringtones are stored on the Phone memory itself.
Another thing is, you can use the "SD-To-Phone" method described on Bitpim. I just used the good ol PC to Phone memory method.
So herein with my methods was what I had just described.
Bitpim, Drivers, cable to connect the phone to PC, and a bit of intelligence. (Of course a computer of some sort that runs Bitpim.)
For the LG Dare (VX9700).
Install drivers version 4.0 anything and up. I tried various driver packs from various places. All the packs with the LG Modem drivers 4.0 or up worked perfectly for me.
I tested this on four computers. All different specs, and all different models.
All you have to do is run bitpim, connect phone, NOT "USB mass storage"
Make sure to not click yes for that. You do not want USB mass storage.
Go to bitpim, open settings, change model of phone "manually" 9100.
Set it, and open "Tree view" Which is fielsystem view on Bitpim.
I don't know how much I'll say this.
DO NOT use the "Get function"
IT will hault you're PC, or you're phone, and whatever happens is YOU'RE fault.
You will not be able to get a new phone, and you will have to pay for whatever expenses that requires.
I will only explain that again. Since if you search on these forums enough, you could find the solution I had already posted.
Thank you.

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
Thanks for such a detailed response truvious, finally after trial and error i managed to get the ringtones to transfer. I did everything you said except instead of putting them in the 18089>ringtones folder, i put them in the mod>ringtone folder and that seemed to work once i restarted the phone and everything. Thanks for the alot for your help and patience, much appreciated, i am stoked on my new ringtones.

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
I just don't undertsand the "Don't Issue the GET" from BitPim .... my understanding is that by issuing the GET FROM PHONE, it copies all the data from the phone to the FOLDER LIST ICON view (the default vs. the File system). I have NEVER had a problem in doing that - maybe I'm just lucky. I use it to make changes to my Calendar and Sync it with OUTLOOK. Works perfectly every time.. has never locked up my computer or phone.
Secondly, when you make modifications to the BREW directory in the File System view, those changes aren't actually applied to the phone until you issue a SEND TO PHONE .... right ??????????
I'm still trying to get my arms around this thing - and some of these threads seems to just make it more complicated that it actually is .. IMHO... Are there any experts even lurking around here anymore...

Re: Bitpim cant get ringtones on to my Dare
@Cody21-
Like I mentioned above. With those requirements. Also This is coming froma Telus carrier user.
As for what you don't get about the "get command".
Is that using it "may lock it up". Not definitely.
Especially if using a phone from another provider. Besides it may even be my software I am using. So many different things that can effect it. Just saving people from a loss. If someone does it and avoids what I say. Its their loss.
As for the file system view. Its permanent and instant. The moment you rename something its done. Some system files aren't changeable since its written protected or being used.
I never use the "get commands". So many users has had bad experience with it. I will avoid it as well.
The file system is just for someone who knows what they are doing, or where everything is. Its why its not on default for Bitpim.
I take my risks, its how I learn.
@dmonkified-
Thats right, its in there for mine as well.
I had not mentioned that here. At least not that I remember of.
I had mentioned it in another thread how to exactly do it on a Telus provided carrier LG Dare phone.
