VX9900 and assigning sounds as ring tones or alerts

I'm a total newb and I have to ask this: I have clips in my MY SOUNDS folder and mp3s in my MY MUSIC folder. I can play my mp3s just fine, but how do I assign my sound clips as text alerts or incoming ring tones? There is no ASSIGN under options. Is there a format the sound files need to be in like the qualcom junk on sprint? I made a steller alert for Texts out of the Transformers transforming sound I want to assign to incoming texts

Re: VX9900 and assigning sounds as ring tones or alerts

You should be able to go into sounds...then alerts...and assign specific ringtones to texts, pics, video's, emails, voicemail, etc.

as for assigning ringtones to specific contacts...that's done through the contact area itself.

Same goes for incoming ringtones. Go into sounds, then assign a specific ringtone to all incoming calls.

REMEMBER: You can't assign mp3's or full length sounds as ringtones. They must be cut down parts of a song, and they need to be in your ringtone folder on the phone, and not on your memory card.

As long as the music is 30 seconds or less you shouldn't have a problem assigning it as a ringtone. That seems to be the magic number for Verizon, at least as far as I've noticed. I just got the enV today, so I don't know if it can handle longer music. It doesn't appear to.

I have ringtones that are about 35 to 40 seconds.....so they can handle a little bit longer that what most people would expect
