How do I put music on my Envy 2 from my Computer?


Ok so I bought a usb cord off ebay for my envy 2 to put some music on my phone and transfer pictures off my phone to my computer but I can't figure it out. When I connect my phone to my computer this is what shows up.
EDIT:ugh I can't post the picture because of the forums but it shows a found new hardware screen.
Is there any software I need to install or something because I thought the phone would just show up on my computer and I could just transfer some files over but I guess thats not how it works. Can anyone help me?

I know this is an old post but I thought I would address it with my own experience anyway; maybe it will help, maybe it wont.

My initial experiences with loading music on newer LG phones was with my wifes Venus. Her Venus came with a USB cable and the disk to load the necessary drivers, to load music with, unlike my enV2 that came with neither. Once I followed all the directions and loaded all the necessary software I was able to import and load music much like I do with iTunes. Not so difficult.

Because I didnt want to spend $20 at the Verizon store I instead ordered a USB cable, and a Bluetooth dongle (dongle... heh heh) for the same price from an online retailer I found through this site. I did everything the same way as I did for my wifes phone by installing all the necessary software, and although the computer recognized my phone was connected it wouldnt show it as a storage device, nor would Rhapsody recognize and initiate it.

I was pretty frustrated. I started regretting my frugalness (read: cheapness) for having purchased a non Verizon sanctified cable. I then started looking at all the documentation I could get my hands on, all except the manual itself.

Anyway, I happened to be messing around the following day, trying to figure out what my problem was, and I came across the "MY MUSIC" menu on my phone again and saw an option that read, "SYNC". I decided to see what that button did so I chose to select it. Lo and Behold, both my computer and Rhapsody recognized my phone as a storage device, and I was then able to load music as I pleased.

As a side note, if anyone intends to load a reasonable amount of songs on this phone you will quickly see the devices hard drive has very little space, like 40 megs or something. Anyway, an 8GB Microsdhc card will be my next purchase.

I dont know if everyone has to do the same thing to have their computer properly recognize their phones, but this is what I have to do. Maybe it's because I have an aftermarket cable, maybe not; I sure dont know.

Thats pretty much it, again, I hope it helps someone someday.

The way I use is to use a Micro SD -to- USB converter. I remove the Micro SD card (no need to turn off the phone), plug it into the converter, plug the converter into the computers USB port, access the SD card as if it was a separate drive via Windows Explorer, and just drag-n-drop the MP3's from the computer's music folder to the LG's music folder. Pop it back into the phone and Volia, done!

I also copy movies and TV shows in the same manner. Like to take Discovery and History Channel shows with me to watch on the plane when traveling. Also like to record a show called NOVA (on PBS) and port it over to the LG to watch later. It's really amazing as to how many shows & movies you can get onto a 2 gig card. They are dramatically smaller when converted to GP3 (the format used for video on the cell phone).

What program do you use to convert the movies gp3?

For copying DVD's, I use a program called Plato DVD-to-GP3. For TV shows, I use Plato's video-to-GP3 Converter. Now, there are free programs you can find, but I went with this one due to the extreme ease of use (and no worries about copy protection.)

Here is the URL Plato DVD-to-GP3 but do look around as there are several programs that can do this. On the website they are the 6th one down & 13th down on the left-side panel. Down below, they sell both together for a 20% discount. This software seems to build better quality video than the shareware stuff, I felt it was worth the cost for the stability, quality and ease of use. You will need to judge what your will to spend vs. quality.

For TV shows, I have my home computer connected to cable, use a TV converter to record the shows (I use an older version of Hauppauge's WinTV-PRV-USB2 to do this - WinTV-PRV-USB2. The shows are recorded in MPEG format and I use a small editor that comes with the WinTV to edit out commercials & the minute or so before and after the show. (If burning to DVD, I use an older version of Roxio.)

Once edited, I use Plato to convert the show and then copy-paste using the adapter. An hour show uses about 2-1/2 gigs so a large hard disk is a must.

After converting to GP3, the show is only around a couple of hundred megs or so - large reduction in size. For example, I have a Discovery show called "The Sun's Secrets", 1-hour and shows to be 213,468 KB in size.)

I have dozens of home movies, TV shows and DVD movies on my cell at any one time. (I'm limited to a 2-gig card with my LG enV, but thats enough for several hours of pleasure.)

Radio Shack has an 8GB Mico SD card with a USB adapter for only $39.99. Amazingly, all of the audio for my NLT Audio Bible takes up less than 2GB of the 8GB card!

I lost my usb adapter before I could use it so I First transfered files using a Voice Star bluetooth dongle and whatever window that came up with the file folders. It was not Rhapsody. The bluetooth dongle was a close-out at Radio Shack on sale for $9.99, and the files did transfer. It's was a little difficult to get it sync'd but it worked. However, It also took forever to transfer the 1189 files that comprise every chapter of every book in the Bible. The files weren't in order. I had to listen to Genesis 1, then Genesis 10-19, before I could get to Genesis 2. Then it goes to Genesis 20-29, before coming to Genesis 3... (you get the picture)....

Since I couldn't get the Verizion Music Manager Software to load on my computer I regretably added the the mp3 files into Rhapsody. I am a little "miffed" about the Rhapsody V-Cast marketing stragety, and really didn't want to load that software thinking I already pay too much for all the phones on my plan. When I finally tried Rhapsody, the files were still out of order.

Since creating playlist on the phone is such a cumbersome task (especially for all the Books of the Bible)I decided to go into Rhapsody and create playlists that should put each book of the bible in the proper order, but the playlists did not show up when I tried to sync the files a second time. I think it just sync'd the original mp3 files again with no playlists. What am I doing wrong? If you just want to add two more chapters (files) does everything have to get coped to the phone all over again? There must be something I don't understand about this program.

I think either the Verizion software, or either the LG EnV2 is leaving off the zeros in front of the 0001 to 1089 numbers before the file name that is supposed to keep each chapter and book in order. All these mp3 files are on 5 CD's which I was able to copy to the phone, but the four digit numbers in front of the book name and chapter are getting modified by either Rhapsody, or the EnV2 phone. They always show up in the correct order on the computer! I wonder if there is there any way to put filenames in the order you want when working with playlists on the phone itself?

I am able to listen to The Bible on my phone, but the search doesn't seem to work, and I can't get the playlists to transfer from Rhapsody; so to listen to Revelation (for example) I have to scroll through every previous book in the New Testament to get there and play the file!

I have an i-pod with the Bible on it, but I thought I'd try to put it on my phone because I always have my phone with me. I thought it would be more convenient-- and it just might be if I could ever get it to work. I hope I can learn how before it's time for me to upgrade to a new phone!

Jesus is coming soon, and then I won't need to read the Bible anymore anyway!

Spend 30 bucks, but a 2-3G sd card with a USB adapter to your computer...Save your self some hassle!

I found my 8GB Micro SC card and an adaptor, and there is no problem transfering files to the phone; it's just the order they are in is wrong. The problem, evidently, has nothing to do with the media the files are on; it is the phone (or the music program on the phone). The solution, I think, will be to give in to the only way the phone is ordering the numbers:1,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,2,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,3,30,31.... with over 1000 files for the NLT Bible, it will take me a long time to get them ordered right, but I have started on it.
