#1 | | Junior Member | i already posted this in the review area then came across here. sorry, im new to this forum. but i figured i would get more replies here so ill re-post
im real interested in getting this phone. but i went to go check it out in person and it was lacking a few things that i am used to. i currently have a treo 700p and i know its a different type of phone, but i was just wondering if anyone else has switched from a treo to the voyager. it seems to cover most of my needs but is missing just a couple
text messaging: treo logs it in as a chat, similar to aol instant messager or yahoo im. the voyager does not do this, correct?
games/applications: treo you can plug into the computer and add whatever you want. voyager requires you to download thru server, pay for internet connection, and pay for the program, is that correct?
im sure theres a few other questions i have, when i come across them ill make sure to post again
thanks in advance

#2 | | Sr. Member | i've never owned (or even touched) a treo before. . .though i once owned a handspring visor, and have owned a couple pocket pc's in the past.
i do own a voyager.
the voyager isn't nearly as packed with usefull tools as a treo, or any other pocket pc smart phone (that i'm aware of).
with your treo you can download tons of applications on your computer then load them on your phone.
you can't do this with the voyager.
you're stuck with the applications verizon offers which you download from the phone yourself.
this does get charged to your bill along with MB usage (they charge $1.99 per MB sent and recieved from the phone. you can get unlimited data usage for $15 a month, which includes v-cast.)
there's also not a whole lot of syncing with the pc. you can't sync your e-mail or callander.
i didn't understand your question with the text messaging question for your treo.
there is a program (which is free) called mobile im that lets you log on and chat through aim, yahoo messanger, and msn messenger.
the messages you send and recieve are in the form of text messages. . .so make sure if you plan on using this alot, your plan includes a certian nomber/unlimeted text messages.
the voyager is a great phone, and is everything and more then i need (or even want. . .lol), but it's not nearly as versatile or upgradable as a pocket pc phone (like your treo).
hope it doesn't sound like i'm bashing on the voyager. . .hehe because i love this little guy (typed this post on it).
thnx. | | |

#3 | | Junior Member | thank you for your reply. what i meant about the messaging is on treo, it isnt a msg 1 by 1.. it bunches them all together with each person like an instant massage is on a computer. so u can scroll up and see all messages together with that person. the only other phone ive seen do this is the iphone. which i dont wanna change from verizon
how do you get music onto the phone?
can you get music videos on there too?
i wonder if that $15 unlimited is for the treo too. cuz last i knew, the unlimited internet access was $49.99..... isnt that correct?

#4 | | Daderator | Instant message's are one on one...you send one...get one back...they are not bunched together. They are kept on the phone though if you desire to keep all sent and received messages.
The easiest way to get music on the phone is to buy a memory card, load it up with all the music you want, put it in the phone, and your good to go.
You can also use the data cable and software that comes with the phone, and sync you music on your computer with the phone (the phone has a 160 megs of internal memory (some of which is used for applications, etc).
Yes, you can do the same thing with music videos....easiest being putting them on a card. Or, if your in a Vcast area...you can download them from there....for a price of course.
I think that $15 is just for the Voyager and it's package. I think the Treo and other smart phone's require a different package and it's internet access is the $50....I think

#5 | | Sr. Member | to download music videos. . .it's really pricey (imo). . .costs about $2.49 per download.
however with the use of bitpim and the data cable (the cable comes with the voyager), it's not very difficult to put on your own videos you have on your computer.
same goes with music (verizon charges a rediculous $1.99 per song download. . .but it's extremely easy to load music onto the phone thankfully.
i'm not exactly sure how the data plans work for smart phones (like your treo). . .but for non-smart phones (like the voyager) they have a plan called v-cast v-pak which gives you unlimited basic v-cast (v-cast video. . .which has a suprisingly large ammount of free content) and unlimited data.
if you go with a premium plan, the v-cast v-pak is included.
i was thinking about getting a samsung sch-i760 (a smartphone) before i got the voyager. . .one of the things that changed my mind was how much more monthly i'd have to pay for a smart phone and unlimited data. . .i would've needed a completly different monthly plan, as well i'd need to pay extra for unlimited data.
the voyager is only costing me $15 more a month.
as long as your not expecting a full blown pocket pc from the voyager (no third party games/applications outside of what verizon will let you download, not nearly as comprensive of a callander/schedule, no documents to go, etc.) i think you'd love the phone (it's just a really nice phone and fun to use).

#6 | | Junior Member | i appreciate the replies. still debating. this treo keeps freezing up here n there so im kinda gettin sick of it but i like not being on a contract and being able to switch whenever i want. its such a nice phone and id like if they would come out with something new with new options on a treo. but it doesnt look like thats gonna happen anytime soon. i also saw the n95 by nokia. looks crazy nice but it also is lacking a few things. what a mission!!

#7 | | Daderator | Well...if you like the options that a smart phone has...then I would say stick with the Treo, blackberry, etc type's of phone....the Voyager doesn't have any of the things a smart phone has persay....but it is a really nice phone for not being a smartphone.
