#1 | | Junior Member | I am pretty much decided on the Voyager, but I want to make sure that the internet is pretty decent on there. I don't want the phone if it's just a crappy little browser like my razor has. You know the mobile web 2.0.
I want to be able to get on ebay and browse, check my gmail account, etc.

However, there is an option in the menu to go to a URL, and when you do it's pretty much just like using the web on your computer. Pages load fairly quick (faster than 56k dial-up, little slower than broadband) and some functionality isn't supported (Flash) but it's not bad. Using the "Optimized Web" option will reformat pages to fit the width of the screen (so you're only scrolling up & down, not side-to-side). I'm very pleased with it so far.
Edit: Just thought, if you have a Verizon Wireless store near you (full store, not a mall kiosk), go in and check out the phone there. They should have full working models which is nice when trying to decide on a phone (it helped me pick the Voyager over the Venus).
Edit 2: Just found that Javascript is supported, just need to have it turned on (which it wasn't by default on mine). Go into the browser menu, scroll down to settings (it's #9), then select the Javascript option.

#3 | | Sr. Member | hey, the browser on this phone is great. . .i use it daily (probably too much ).
it is a bit slow (about 10x faster then dial up), but it gets the job done, and lets me goto most of the sites i like visiting (full ebay, forums like this one, all my blog sites, even myspace).
the qwerty keyboard is a godsend with wireless internet. . .makes it quick and easy to type text (i've posted quite a few posts on this forum with my phone, and a few of my blog posts have been posted from my phone).
anyhow, here's a decent video (very long) on the voyager. . .if you fast forward to around the 6 minute mark, the guy brings up the web browser and spends a few minutes playing around with it: (note to moderators. . .hope i'm not breaking any board rules by posting youtube vids):
p.s.
i was going to buy a different phone (the samsung sch-i760 smart phone), until i watched this video on the voyager. . .hehe this video completely sold me on the voyager, and i haven't regretted it.
thnx.

#4 | | Daderator | First....twitch...thats cool on posting the youtube link.
Second....the browser is nice....way better than any other non-smart phone that Verizon offers. If your in a V-Cast area....it's a lot better. If your not, then it still rocks....just takes a tad bit longer to do your browsing. The full HTML is just amazing...especially like I said...for a non-smart phone.
You can pretty much go any place your computer can...including Ebay, Gmail, here, etc. You won't be disappointed.

Otherwise you'll be paying $1.99 per MB transfered, which will quickly add up if you do any web browsing.

#6 | | Junior Member | Thanks so much! I am definitely sold, and yes I have already switched over the the Nationwide plan, and I bought some kind of vzw monthly pack for 15.00 a month. They said it was unlimited, and that was what I needed for that phone. Now I just have to get the phone!
Hey twitch 77, I was also looking at the samsun i760 smart phone, but first of all it was way to much money (by the way cnet is giving that phone great reviews), and I read somewhere that the Voyager was way better for the price since it was close to a smart phone, and that the unlimited plan you buy with it to browse the internet is cheaper than having to buy the data plan you would have to buy for around 40.00 a month if you get the samsung i760 phone. | | |

but after some research, it would've been quite a bit more monthly for me to have gone with the i760 (i think it would've been between $50 and $60 more then i'm now paying each month, to have a smartphone with unlimited data. . .right now i'm only paying $15 more each month then what i was originaly paying ).
i've owned alot of small gadgets over the years. . .and this phone is absolutly one of the coolest things i've owned. hehe i'm one of those people who buy a gadget, love it for a week maybe 2 tops. . .then put it away, and forget about it.
with this phone though, i'm still stoked about it. . .i live in a small town, lol so i'm always walking around stores surfing the net with the phone, because i'm confidant i look cool (. . .yeah, i know, i'm actualy making a complete fool of myself! heh).
but yeah, i'm still excited to have this phone, and i'm excited with all the things it does (streaming video, the web browsing is awesome, v-cast videos is neat, mp3's, cammera (which i actualy use quite a bit. . .i didn't think i'd use the camera at all, but i am), etc. . .) it's just a dam exciting toy .
hope your phone gets too you soon.

#8 | | Mr Admin Guy | I played with an iphone and the voyager next to eachother browsing the same pages. Safari is def better, but the browser on the voyager, like everyone has said above, is the best browser verizon has right now.

#9 | | Member | Just wanted to add a few things. The external screen is useful if you're going to simply be browsing through sites hitting links. If you need to do any kind of text entry, you'll be using the internal screen and keypad, or flipping between the two (which I tend to do).
The only annoyance I can say about it right now is navigating forms. I purchased some airline tickets last night on my phone while I was at work and navigating between the text entry portions of the form was downright frustrating at times. I'd enter my name for example and hit the down key to move to the next box, and an autocomplete type feature would pop up. Finally found that scrolling over to the side (away from the current box) to scroll down worked best. Needless to say, what should have taken my 5-6 minutes at most took almost 15. Still love the phone regardless.
