Firmware Version 7 out now for the Voyager

Just to let everybody know, there is another update for our phone.

There have been many rumors as to what it all does. I will tell you what I have seen with mine....forget the rumors.

First...the update will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. I would strongly suggest erasing your messages both in the in box and sent. They are saying it takes longer for some reason as the flash has to go through all the messages.

OK, the three main things I have seen improvements in are you can now customize your short cut keys now to basically anything you want (you have 11 slots for customizable shortcuts, you can double up if you want but I really don't know why you would want to)

Here is a picture. Notice the bottom right hand icon that is highlighted....that's how you change things around.



You can customize the function key ones also now.

Blue tooth has drastically improved in both sound and quality.

And lastly, now you can now to start to scroll a web page while it is still loading instead of having to wait until the page has finished loading....this one is a biggy for me.

My browser seems a tad faster, and thats one of the biggest rumors I have been hearing....everything from fast to amazingly faster.

Oh....just in case, I would also remove your memory card to before giving it over to get flashed. Not because they would steal it or anything, but some people have been complaining that there cards are now messed up.

Also, if your still running Version 3 firmware, this update will add both Version 5 and Version 7 to your phone.

All in all....go get this update. Seems solid, and worth it...at least to me it was worth it.

Yeah I've had it for a week now. It is solid. I havn't encountered any problems yet.

will i lose anything when i do the firmware update?

can it be done over the air or does it have to be brought in?

Does it have the feature like the iphone when it rotates?

no it does not have that.

As of this morning....you still have to take your phone in to get this done.

I've had mine done for about a week also....and have not encountered one problem with it.

I lost my bluetooth pairing's, and had to reset my homepage back to my personal one as it reset itself to Verizon's homepage. In other words....nothing that 3 minutes of my time didn't fix.

Does it interfere or prevent any of the previously known 'hacks' or use with BitPim?

Did you (or anyone else) have modified wallpaers, apps, or ringtones, and did it change/delete any of them?

what exactly do i do to get BitPim on my voyager to get free ringtones?

I got my voyager flashed with the new version yesterday. Took about 20 minutes. I have all my pics saved on an sd card and I took that out before I had it flashed. Getting it flashed didnt delete any of my ringtones, contacts or settings. Im not sure about saved pictures or videos.

I had the upgrade done today. Only problem I've noticed were in the camera settings. I had it set to store external, and it has internal set when I got it back. And the home page was reset as one of the previous posts mentioned.

how you do upgrade to firmware 7?

You go to your friendly Verizon store. 20-40 minutes. Drop it off and have lunch. Almost nothing was changed as far as my settings, etc. The tech took out the microSD and told me to hold on to it. That was it. There are instructions here for do it yourself, but no one really recommends it. Even if you could download the upgrade and know how to apply there are 2 major dangers.
Power outage or cable pulled out. In either case, you won't have a phone and Verizon might charge you to fix it. I have to upgrade my DSLR's firmware sometimes, but I have a server grade UPS so power is not an issue.

How do you change your icons ? I was unable to get to any menu that allowed me to do this. I go to setting and tools> phone settings> shortcut keys and it only gives me options for laft key right key up and down key.

Go to the Shortcut menu. At the bottom right you will see an icon marked "Set"
Tap that and you will see the menu in a Grid. Yo can move items or delete an item and replace it with an item from a list. The list provided is, unfortunately limited. You will also find an option in the menu at the bottom to revert to the default.
