death to my external screen :( :(

blech. . .my external screen died on me tonight.
i was on the net checking my email, and all the sudden my external screen went really dim, then turned black.
it was very odd and has never happened before.
so i restarted my phone, and was happy because it showed the verizon wireless logo, and then the little start up annimation on the external screen. . .so i thought it was all fixxed.
nope, as soon as it started back up the screen once again went blank.
it's weird because i can feel the screen vibrate when i touch it, and hear that i'm touching buttons, but i can't see anything.

i tried a bunch of things. . .took the battery out for 30 minutes, called *228 and did both options, but nothing works.

luckly verizon's customer support was as always awesome. there're sending me a replacement free of charge (i don't have insurance on this phone, and i've owned it for about 4 months. . .i thought for sure i'd have to pay for a new phone).
they think it has to do with faulty wiring (and it sounded like this has happened before on voyagers. . .though i didn't ask).

has this happened to anyone else?
it's note a huge deal to me. . .heh i'm just happy i wont have to fork over a ton of money to get it fixxed, i'm also happy i haven't done anything on this phone that'd void the warrenty (no flash games, or s/w updates or anything like that).
thnx.

does yours randomly reboot itself ever?
i'm interested in knowing if there's any voyagers bug free.
mine reboots itself. . .other then that, that's the only problem i've really had with the phone up till now (not counting the 30 second streaming video issue. . .which had nothing to do with the phone).

all in all, i love the voyager, and use it daily (heh i'm addicted to the web on my phone).
thnx.

p.s.
do you think if i called verizon tommorow and asked them to send the replacement with the newest s/w version, they'd do it for me? i wont do it at home, as i'm worried it'd void the warrenty, and the closest place that can do it for me, is over 2 hours away.

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

okay, now this is weird.

my screen started working again today. the battery was almost dead (on it's last bar). i turned it off to show my dad that even though there was no picture on my screen, it still showed the verizon logo, and start up animation when you turn it on (was proving that the screen wasn't completely broken).
but this time when it turned back on. . .the screen stayed on and didn't go blank.
this was about 8 hours ago, and it's still working.
i let the battery drain all the way, then charged it (thinking maybe it was the battery).

so now i need some help.
verizon has already sent out a replacement voyager.
do i just send the replacement back to them? or should i go ahead and keep the replacement, just incase my screen decides to go dead on me again?
this is assuming that my screen doesn't die on me again by the time i get the replacement.
if i do keep the replacement, and send this one back. . .will they charge me if the phone i send back is working fine?
i'll call verizon, and ask them these same questions tomorow.

thnx.

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

okay, verizon told me to go ahead and keep my original phone, and send the replacement back to them.
if i ever have the issue with this phone again, they'll send out another replacement, and they said i should then keep the replacement, even if my original fixxes itself again.

bitter sweet for me. on one hand i was hoping the replacement would come with the newest s/w update. . .on the other hand, i have about $40 of get it now games on this phone, and i was not looking forward to losing them (guitar hero 3 mobile is addicting lol ).

srry for the double post.
thnx.

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

i havent had any problems with my external screen, however i have had problems with my internal. Sometimes when i open it up to text (or whatever) the screen will go black and I have to mess with it (close and open back up or giggle a little bit) kind of annoying but it usually goes back to normal and only does this every so often. I think its just faulty wiring myself?

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

Ok first of all i would of def. took the replacement phone cause most likely the screen prolly will mess up again. And plus Verizon doesnt really like and rarely gives out free (usually $50) replacements without insurance. they prolly wanted the brokien one back just to see whats wrong and to make improvements to the next generation Voyager.

My Voyager will randomly restart too, mainly when im in an intense session (mostly when using the browser).

Finally, why you worried about your games if you bought the game or are subscribing you can just re-download it to the replacement phone via Get it Now free of charge. (80% positive about bought games, 99.9% about subscribed games).

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

I just had sort of the same thing happen. The touch screen is there but does not respond to my touch. I used the slide to allow the screen to work, but it still does not respond. I called LG on my land line but the only suggestion was take the battery out for 10 seconds. No luck. They offered to fix it if I sent it back, but clearly I'm going to Verizon. I'm going to try to use the *228.
Oddly I've had it about the same length of time.
I can't figure out how to call *228. What did they tell you to do?

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

Ive noticed a lot of people have had problems with it.

A friend of mine had his and with in the first week had to take it back cuz the front screen had a black circle in the middle of it.

My ex got his and had to take it back because every time he woudl push one key on the keyboard 3 other letters would come up.

I had mine for 3 days and then the touch screen would only respond to touch occassionally, it would power itself off randomly, and then the sound wouldnt work. People would call and it would recieve the call but not ring.

I walked into the store told them what it was doing and they gave me a new phone, no questions asked.

But i know 3 people with the voyager, including myself, and everyone has had to have theirs replaced for one reason or another.

Re: death to my external screen :( :(

my phone does randomly restart mostly when I'm in an intense session in the browser just like somebody said.

Although the real bummer is my screen cracked on me about a week ago i haven't taken it in yet, just hadn't had time to. I didn't drop it, or anything just took out of my pocket when i got home from work put it on a desk. Came back a few hours later and picked it up, touched it and bam huge spider crack on the external screen. I was pretty pissed as its only like a month old, i figured there would be no way i could get a replacement considering they would probably say that i dropped it or something. I have the insurance but its 50 bucks and you can only use it 2x in one year so i figured i would just replace it in the next month or two. After reading these posts I feel more confident that they won't call me a lyer when i tell them that i didn't abuse it.
