Ringtones for Contact List

Is there any way to get my phone to just play a ringtone when someone in my contact list calls? Whenever someone in the contact list calls I get "Call from (name)", but it's almost impossible to hear when there is any ambient noise or when the phone is in it's holster. I've tried "assigning" a ringtone to a few of the contact names, but that didn't work. The manual was no help either. Any suggestions?

I don't know why you're having trouble but it works fine for me. I have a general ringtone for most calls (Settings & Tools > 4. Sound Settings > 2. Call Sounds > 1. Call Ringtone) and I have a unique ringtone for my wife (Contact List > [my wife] > Ringtone).

When my wife calls, I hear her unique ringtone. When someone else calls, I hear the general ringtone. It works great.

I have unique ringtones set up for everyone as well. You edit the contact and select a unique ringtone in your selection. I don't even know how you got that setting in the first place, so I'm sorry I can't be more help there! Good luck!

Sounds like you have call connect turned on. Here's how to disable or turn that off:

Go to Setting & Tools
Sound Settings (4)
Service Alerts (5)
Call Connect (3)
Turn it off

Now, whenever you get a call, it won't say that annoying call from anymore.

i have a similar problem....it only occurred after i tried to add ringtones via bitpim. now phone doesnt use any ringtones...i can play them and it even say tone assigned but when a call is made its a no go. just that voice crap advising of call. that is with general tone as well as assigning one so im stuck with a vibrator....lol....that didnt sound right....lol
