LG U8110 Email Account

I just got my new U8110 yesterday...and have been trying (and failing) to get my external email account set up on the phone. It comes pre-installed with the 3mail account (which I haven't really used), and the manual claims that you can just put your server details (username, password, POP3 and SMTP addresses) in and you should be able to retrieve email headers.

However, I did all that, and confirmed all the server details etc. by comparing them to my settings in MS Outlook (on my PC), but every time i try to check for new messages, I get the "Receiving Failed" error message and no further information. I tried playing around with the authentication settings (whether the phone should use my username and password to access the POP3 server etc.), but that didn't help.

Has anyone here got an external email account working (sending and receiving) on the U8110? If so, please share your experiences, hints and tips with us?! TIA!
