Looking for some info here. I've been through this forum a little bit and came across one or two postings about how to address my problem, but none of the information was very "precise".
I have a VX7000 and have been tinkering with it all day long (it's nice to get payed to play). The problem I'm trying to get answered is how to set up my cell to work as a modem. I, of course, have a data cable for it and all the drivers are set up just fine. I also looked around on the internet a bit for more information and came up with this link that describes how to set up my cell phone to connect to the internet.

The instructions work fine... except for one problem... you have to be set up with your cell phone provider for internet access. I have Verizon as my provider and the instructions in the above DOC were easy to follow. My phone dialed, but I ofcourse don't have access.
What I want to know is... am I really limited to having to sign up an additional service with Verizon to just get my laptop to dial-up on the road?
I really want to use a real ISP that I already subscribe to... if possible.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I would guess the process is the same for using the VX4400 as a cellular modem.
This link has instructions on how to do it with the VX4400, you should be able to follow these.

Verizon allows each of it's customers access to its Express data network for only airtime charges. Speeds are not bad for what you're getting.
I just got a VX7000 today, once I get the data cable, I'll try it out with the new one.

You can remove a screw with a hammer but sometimes a screwdriver works better. If you need to use phone and laptop while on the road for business, you may be better off using a PC card that is designed for laptop use. That way you don't have to jerryrig the phone to the laptop and you don't miss important calls while you are downloading data.
PC cards are very inexpensive if you cruise some of the vendor sites such as CNET shopper or freephonesnow where they can activate the data plan on it for you. Then your phone and laptop tasks are optimized and you have the use of both, not just one at a time.
