vx6000 problem

i bought a vx6000 from a guy on ebay (bad move, but that's another story).

here's my problem:

i activated it and it was working beautifully for about 5 hours. i was downloading some ringtones and when i was finished i had no reception and the message i got was "service required". i restarted the phone and still had "service required". i called verizon tech support and they said it was a software problem. does anybody know if is there a fix for this or is the phone screwed?

Try dialing *228, and when prompted...hit 1. This same thing happened to my friend's phone...that this worked. Good luck!
