LG VX 8000 Verizon cannot download pictures - must pay to use wireless network

At least according to 2 reps at the call center. They told me that there is no ability to download pictures from the phone directly to the computer. IT is "not offered".

Furthermore, they said it "only costs $.25 per picture, so what is the bid deal!

I have cable and drives. My install registers as working in the device manager (XP2).

The VX 8000 even allows me to choose between Data/Fax, and PC connection. But it will not allow me to download pictures off the phone.

Does someone have a fix for this?

We buy the phone, take the picture, but we then have to pay them to get the picture into the computer. Bad marketing decision.

Someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but I have the VX7000 that's very similar and you certainly can download pictures without Verizon.

Method 1: Use a Data Cable - the files are in the /dload/img directory on the 7000

Method 2: Requires resetting phone configuration settings and/or setting up your own WAP gateway and then changing the MMS configuration to point to your own website.

Check out a site here for MMS_Diary that will allow you to upload the photos to a website of your choosing.

Nothing in Method 2 is as easy as paying Verizon $5 for internet access and buying a "pack" or unlimited photo downloads. But if you have multiple users on your Family Plan, it could make economic sense.

Cheers

Just My Opinion

I've bought a package through verizon for $20.00 for the vcast unlimited msg, text, picture program. You can send as many pictures, text incoming, outgoing(also good for IM(AOL and MSN). I just take the pictures and and then send them to my email address at home. As for the data cable, Im not sure on that yet, but will take the previous reply opinion and try that out. Im still waiting to try that myself. Also I usually go to the verizon store and get my techincal questions answered. They are usually alot more helpful then talking to Mohammed at the Corporate Center who usually is clueless.

One more thing. I just bought this data cable and program from infinitewireless(who is the seller) on ebay. You can download all of your pictures, download ringtones and much more from your cell to your computor vise versa from computor to your cell. So Yes you can download pictures with a data cable. Pretty simple to install and run also.

I have 2 programs. The first one is one that I bought which works the best and the other is one that I bought from someone on ebay.

The one that I bought is from http://www.datapilot.com/. This program works great. The other is www.bitpim. It works ok,but I like the datapilot the best. Do you have bearshare?? I believe it on there.
