help for a newbie software choice with a vx6100

Hi:
I have just purchased a cell phone with verizon, the lgvx6100 and see from some investigation that I can get software and a cable to add ringtones, manage addresses,etc. But can someone tell me if I use cellcables.com or DataPilot, will it mess up my phone? Are they easy to use and can I make my own ringtones from mp3 or wav files? I really would like to get something but I do not want to "fry" my phone. Any suggestions on software company? Any help I would really appreciate. I do not know which company to go with. Thanks so much
