How to disable EVDO on VX8100

Didn't see this covered anywhere, and I searched, so I'm sorry if this is a repost.

Ok, before we start, if you mess this up, you're on your own.

With that out of the way:

Menu
0
000000 (Access Code)
Network Select (opt. 3)
Mode Pref. (opt. 1)
Select 1X only
Restart Phone

I have done this and now the EVDO icon is gone, while 1X remains. I can still use Mobile Web and GIN, and make calls of course.

Since I don't subscribe to VCAST, which is iffy here in San Jose, I wanted to turn off the EVDO to help save battery life, and from what I have read elsewhere, it can help 50-100%. You mileage may vary.

Only do this if you don't want to use VCAST (drrrr right?).

I thought you were asking... yes, that's absolutely correct. You'll discover mobile web and GIN performance will be improved as well...

If you aren't using Vcast, and want to help conserve battery life.

humm.. but what's the difference between 1x and digital only hybrid, besides the fact that evdo doesn't work with 1x. Does this affect calls at all? Why would evdo be sucking battery life?

EVDO is the broadband data network, so that won't affect your call quality or ability to use GIN, or txt & pix msg.

EVDO constantly checks to see if it has connectivity, shortening battery life.
