How can I upload the pictures I take with my phone and upload them to my computer? My phone is an LG vx8100 and I have the data cable.

Go to www.bitpim.org and scroll about halfway down the page until you see a heading that reads "BitPim 0.7.37 (27 September 2005) - Development Release".
There is a link to where you can download BitPim 0.7.37, a free software that allows you to transfer files to (and from) your phone.

There are several methods. The easiest is listed above: BitPim and a data cable.
But there are also programs that can be used to receive the photo files and store them on your website. This method isn't for computer neophytes or the faint-of-heart, but once it's working, you have a way of sending every photo you take to a website (avoiding the cost of using vzwpixplace.)
The photos are intercepted by a PHP script posing as an MMSC - a multi-media server. You can send photos or videos taken by the phone -- even voice memos.
MMS_Diary is a popular one.
Humpa's MMS is arguably more efficient.
The advantage of this method is that you get all your camera pix/flix organized in a thumbnail viewer on a web page automatically...just by sending them from the phone. You can then opposite click on the photo and download it to any computer.
The disadvantage is that you need a real webhost. It requires PHP and the GD library (which comes bundled with newer versions of Linux) that often aren't present on free webhosts like the one with your service provider.
You can see an example of it here.

For the record, Humpa's PHP script will forward any e-mail messages to addresses entered in the To: sections of your MM message. That way, you can end up with a photo filed to a webhost and sent to an inbox somewhere. Convenient.
e-mailing them works. 25 cents for each one...your computer isn't likely on the "in" program.Last edited by reader; 10-03-2005 at 04:26 AM.

image hosting site
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but I came across this thread while doing research on php scripts for image hosting galleries that support MMS. I was wondering if you guys think the scripts mentioned here are robust enough to create a site similar to http://www.yousendit.com , http://www.filecrazy.com , or http://www.iuploads.com that would also support sending and receiving to cell phones via MMS. I already have access to the basic web image hosting scripts, it's just the MMS part that I'm not sure how to integrate into my project. What do you guys recommend?

Well, they're intended for use by cellphones. Those sites are just photo repositories and have nothing to do with MMS, really. Both take images from your local computer and put them on a webhost via HTTP.
MMS_Diary and Humpa's MMS are both using MMS to transfer files to a webhost.
Visit the phonecam to see Humpa's script in action.

popularity
How popular do you think that kind of thing would be? I would like to have a site that provides file uploads, photo uploads, and MMS transfers.

There are a lot of them out there already. Check how many advertisers they have. I don't see any with substantial "brand" advertising.
It's a matter of whether you can provide something unique.
