i don't know if it's a sprint thing or an LG thing, but my phone would not play an mp3 ringtone at all! it said it was not a supported MIME type. anyway i figured out a very easy way around it!!!

i asked in the forum and someone told me to convert the file to wav then reconvert it to qcp (qualcomm purevoice) but by the end of all that converting it sounded like a really bad AM radio.

on a whim, i decided to try changing the filetype without converting it, just by simply erasing '.mp3' from the end and replacing it with '.qcp' and all of a sudden my phone plays any mp3 ringtone i send to it. changing the extension to .qcp did the trick for me!!!

i hope someone thinks this is useful

there are many uploaders but i use http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint which works with other brands and providers as well as sprint. read the instructions if you've never used an uploader before...

REMEMBER THAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE SPRINT'S VISION PACKAGE FOR DOWNLOADS, YOU CAN BE BILLED FOR EVERY TIME YOU USE THE UPLOADER, BUT AS LONG AS YOU HAVE VISION IN YOUR PLAN IT'S FREE TO USE.

here's the thing... i know for a fact it works on two sprint LG models: the PM-225 (mine) and the LG 5350 (because someone else on the forum tested their phone like i did and found out it worked).

it might work for your LG phone, and it might work for a lot of other LG models. the problem is we won't know unless someone tests it and comes back here to let us know it worked for them. I only know it doesn't work on my partner's Samsung PM-A840

if you decide to try it, please let us know if it works for you. if we can get enough people to try it we can come up with a list and make it a sticky thread in the LG or Sprint forums...

This has been done for some time (years as a matter of fact). Just changing the extention to something that your phone is capable of playing is nothing new.

Most ppl just change the ringer clip extention to .mid. I think if you do a search on some of my older threads say about a year or so ago, I went into a full detailed list on what and how to do this, including how and what to use to make your own clips. NOTE: By the way, if you do find some of my old postings and there is a link to one of my websites that has ringtones on it, don't go to it, I took that site down a long time ago.

On the LG 9800 you don't even need to change the exention as it is a full mp3 player. You will still need to make a clip and all, but there is no need to change the extention.

I can't remember if anybody has tried the fake 555 number to see if it works on LG phone like it does on Moto phones, but that would probably be the easiest way to put true mp3 ringers on your phone. (do a search on the Moto E815 on how to put ringers on the phone. It will give a detailed description of what I am talking about)
