I have a VX8100 ( Verizon) and a cable which converts to serial via USB 2
I have loaded the driver for the cable and it seems to be working ok but I cant get any software to detect the phone. I have tried Datapilot and also BITPIM. I have tried different settings on the phone turned it off and on etc and I just cant get it to work.
Any suggestions?

At stage I would like to do anything phone book manager,ringtones etc. But I cannot get the phone and the computer to talk.. ie the software ( both Datapilot and BITPIM ), cant see the phone. By the way the cable/driver seem fine as when I connect the cable it sees it and bring up the Suseen ( DataPilot's) driver
Thanks

1. Turn your cell phone off and than on.
2. With the cell phone turned on, connect your USB cable to the computer.
3. Launch the DataPilot Application, and click the "Settings" button on your Datapilot virtual phone.
4. Select the make and model of your cell phone (LG VX8100) in the Communication Settings Dialog Box. In the "Com port" drop down menu, select "Susteen Virtual Com" or "Susteen universal cable II", depending on the type of cable you have.
5. If any of the above com ports is present, please select it and click OK. The communication with your cell phone should have been established.
6. If none of the above com ports are present, unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. It will then prompt you to install the driver again.
7. Using the Hardware Wizard, you can either install automatically or select Install from a list or specific location {Advanced}
8. To install automatically, just make sure the CD is inside the CD ROM drive and let it run through.
9. Once the driver is installed, make sure that the phone is still connected to the USB cable. Turn the phone off and on and in communication setting, select the make and model and com port per instructions at step 3 and 4, and then click OK.
got this from datapilot.com if it doesn't work i would call them up to see whats wrong

Yep, I have followed the above instuctions exactly ( and several times before).
The Susteen virtual Com does show in the COM port ok ( on Port 4) and if I change the USB port it goes to Port 5. So the cable should be OK. I have also installed and uninstalled the Com Port driver... nothing !! STUMPED.
Thanks for trying.. you obiviously have it working !

The software drivers are with the Datapilot software. I bought the cables from a web site on line.
