How do I remove the battery from a VX5200??

OK, I'm stupid.

The manual says to "Lift the release latch to detach the battery.".

Um...where exactly is this release latch?

On mine, on the back of the phone at the top, push down and slide the battery toward the bottom of the phone.
The manual may say that but there is no latch.

They shouldn't confuse people like me with missing latch instructions.
