A few years ago, you had to stay with the provider for specific phones. Now, you should be able to use any phone with any provider, as well as keep the same number when switching providers. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Go to Cingular and tell them you want to start a contract with them on your current phone. I'm sure they will let you know what can be done.
