#1 | | Newbie | Attempting to do MP3 ringtones on a VX8300 using card, card reader, and phone...no USB cable.
I already found the post that detailed how to enable MP3's on the newer
8xxx and did it...that helped alot.
Now that I can put MP3's on my phone, I can't seem to move them from the card to the phone itself. Not a huge thing as it's pretty easy to convert to WMA, which I CAN move to the phone from the card. Also, is there any way to use them as ringers without having a cable? And if not, where is a cheap place to go pick up a cable? I think it's like $50 at verizon.
Any help is appreciated.

#4 | | Junior Member | I am waiting for my cable to arrive from eBay for my VX8300. But I had a ton of ringtones that I made for my VX6000 saved on my computer. I attached them to an email to myphone#@vzwpix.com, and they arrived as a pix message on my phone. I saved them as ringtones, and they work perfectly.

The other end has a standard USB port on it. Also don't forget, your going to need drivers for the cable and bitpim to comunicate between the phone and your computer.
On a side note: The USB cable and software and music kit that Verizon is currently selling is now going for $29....not $40 or $50 that everybody is saying. I just picked up a new one for my 9800 last week. (which will also work for the 4650, 8100, and 8300)

#6 | | Newbie | How do you "make" ringtones? For example, if want a certain song as a ringtone. I have the 8300, have downloaded songs using the SD card. I can play the songs, but can't make them ringtones. I can send the songs to the vzw my pix website, which i have an account, then send them back to my phone and use them as a ringtone? Thanks.

#7 | | Junior Member | You'll need to cut the song down using some audio editing software (most people use Audacity -- Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder ) to a ringtone of your liking. Should be no longer than 30 seconds long since that's about how long the phone will ring even if you don't answer it.
Then save the cut-down ringtonified song as an mp3 file. I think the limit is 200kb so play around with settings (KHz and bitrate) to get the file under that limit. Note that saving as a mono file rather than stereo will cut the size in half!
Once you're through with that, rename the file from mp3 to mid (example.mp3 to example.mid, or whatever). Then send it as an attachment to an email to yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com (like 1234567890@vzwpix.com).
Your phone will alert you about a new pix message. Download it, and save the sound as a ringtone.

#10 | | Junior Member | You can also use a card reader/writer if you have a memory card. The card comes with an adapter to make it work in one of the smaller slots. It will copy the entire mp3 instead of converting it to a smaller file like the bitpim does using the usb cable. So you need to make the files smaller to get more on the card.
