Pretty happy with my VX8500 in general. Like the form factor and all.
I bought a Micro SD card and USB read/writer after talking to a Verizon dude about how to put music on it from iTunes on my Macintosh. This is CD's that I ripped and fully own (not stuff I bought from the iTunes which I know for sure won't work).
I futzed around with no luck. Then today went back to the store. The guy basically said the phone itself only plays Windows Media files (.wma) and not MP3s. He looked for the setting that to enable/disable MP3 like on another LG phone, couldn't find it and said no MP3s.
He is thinking if you have your music on a Windows box then you can run their Music Essentials Kit software. It will convert MP3s to WMA while downloading. So that's how they support MP3s (and control what you play)...
Then there's the directory structure on the card. I tried dropping the music files right onto the blank card from the Mac at first. Another Verizon dude
said you have to format the card using the utility on the phone. He was right. It creates a directory structure on the card. So I dropped an MP3 in the "my_music" directory from the Mac, stuck it in the Chocolate and...
...it worked!
So you CAN play native MP3s and don't need any of the music kit (except for the headphones).
