To copy your pictures and video clips from your phone to your PC, you will need to buy a MicroSD card. You can then move your pics and vids to the card. Finally, put the card into your PC's card reader and copy them to your PC.

The only way to get games on your Verizon phones is to download them through Get It Now.

I've seen talk about a program called BitPim, what exactly does it do?

BitPim is a small software application that allows you to upload your own ringtones and wallpapers to your phone (in addition to some other essential functions). I use it myself, but I do not endorse it's use for others. Basically, if you mess something up while using BitPim, you will void your phone's warranty and then you are stuck with a very expensive paperweight. If you are truly technically inclined, then you can use the software at your own risk.

Make sure you're pushing on it to take it out and not pulling. The phone has some kind of spring action which keeps it in place until you push on it. My fingers are personally to big so I've just been using a dime.

In order to put music on it, make sure you have either a card reader, or a usb cable.

    Re: vx8600 Questions

do i need to purchase the music essentials kit or can i just use a card reader with the micro sd card? if so, does the quality or quanity of songs diminish?

final question: what kind of battery life has been observed with playing music on the 8600?

thanks for the help. if i can avoid buying the music kit, that would be great.

    Re: vx8600 Questions

There are various ways to connect the phone and transfer music. The files are all digital so there is no difference in quality as a result of the method you use.

    You can connect

    - Using a card reader with the card removed from the phone
    - Using a data cable with the card in the phone
    - Using Bluetooth with the card in the phone (very slow, not advised)

You don't need the Music Essentials Kit but it does come with the USB drivers, software and both a data cable and stereo headphones.

Get the software and drivers FREE here.

V CAST Music Essentials Manager Download

You can just format the card in the phone, remove the microSD card and using a card reader connected to your computer, load files into the /Music directory.

    Files must be...

    - Less than 32 characters long
    - MP3 or WMA (Windows Media Audio)
    - NOT Copy Protected
    - Complete ID3v1 tags (This is where the phone gets Album, Artist, Name etc.)

BitPim does incredibly SLOW transfers. Better to use a card reader. Or with a data cable, you can use the Verizon software above. The software that comes with the Music Essentials Kit didn't work for my 8600, but the later release available for download (link shown above) worked fine.

Battery life is OK. Doesn't seem to drain too much from the phone. But it's certainly not unlimited!
