OK folks, I've owned the LG Venus for about 5 days now. I was pretty pleased with it at first but have now run into an issue which is a deal breaker for me and the phone will likely go back if I can find a way around it.
I purchased the 8 GB MicroSD card for the sole purpose of storing music. I inserted the card and then used the supplied USB cable to connect my phone to my computer. If I check the available space using the "Memory" function on the phone, it shows a formated card with 7.6 GB of available space. After the phone connects to my computer with the USB cable, I can see the card in Windows Explorer but it only shows 3.6 GB of available space. Also, when I've uploaded about that amount of songs, I get a "device full" error message.
Apparently LG is only allowing you to use 1/2 the available space for music and are reserving the other 1/2 for pictures, data, etc. Once I've hit the "device full" error and then again check the available external memory on the phone, it shows 3.6 GB used and 4 GB available but Windows sees it as full.
If I remove the chip from the phone and use a card reader, WIndows Explorer sees the chip as an 8 GB chip. It also shows folder for music, data, pictures, sounds, etc. I tried just doing a copy and past of my music from the computer to the card and they all went onto the card, about 7.4 GB worth. I then installed the card back into the phone though and it will no initialize.
So...any suggestions on how to utilize the entire external memory for music?
Thanks

Re: Venus memory card issue
I purchased the Venus last Wednesday and am encountering the same problem with a 2 gig card only allowing 1 gig to be loaded with music. Verizon said that it does sound like a problem but there are not any current fixes however the told me i could exchange the phone for another venus and see if the issue persists. LG agrees that it is a problem and they are looking into it however they didn't know if it is just one or two phones, or the software in general causing the issue. They are supposed to call back in the next two days and when they do ill post their reply. I hope it gets fixed, otherwise I'm planing on using the thirty day return policy Verizon has (to bad because other than this issue i love the phone).
Oh and where did you buy the 8 gig card from I could only find 6 gig on new egg.

Re: Venus memory card issue
Yes, certainly sounds like they have a problem. I can't even get a response from LG and Verizon gives a different answer every time you talk to a different person. They have something screwed up. Apparently they are formating the card so that only 50% is available for music.
I got the 8GB card at the Verizon kiosk at Circuit City. The only place I've seen them is the Verizon stores. I think Verizon also has them online.
I'm like you though. If they don't come up with a solution, this phone is going back.
Please DO let me know when they get back to you. I'm hoping it is something that can be resolved with a re-programming or something.

Re: Venus memory card issue
I talked to Verizon again today and they swore that I was the only one who has reported this issue. They said that they would not open a ticket on it based upon one complaint. I did exchange the phone a couple of nights ago and it does the same thing. I also met another guy at the Verizon store who has a Voyager and he has the same problem also.
Today I received 3 emails from 3 different people at LG. Two of them claimed that there were no known issues and that it had to be a problem with the phone or the card. Here is the response from the third person at LG.
This is currently a known issue with the LG voyager as well as the LG Venus, we are working hard to come up with a solution for this problem, but as of right now there is no fix. Your e-mail address has been added to a list of customers who have contacted us about this problem, when we find a solution you will be contact via e-mail with the solution.

Re: Venus memory card issue
I have a 1GB card, and am not getting any problems.
It does only show 968MB, but that other 30MB is for
the card itself im guessing.

Re: Venus memory card issue
Yes, i am using about 2/3
I have 308MB left out of the 968MB
Its a 1GB card and the 32MB is probably code for the card itself.
I read somewhere about devices that only use
around half of a big card (6GB,8GB).
Ill find it and post back

Re: Venus memory card issue
I couldnt find anything about the venus, if you google: problems with SD cards, Device only reads part of sd, Sd card only showing half... etc.. etc
Now for the possible fixes
1. Re-format the card. This is your best chance
2. Try someone else's card, maybe its your card
3. Ask Verizon about this issue, maybe its well known about
Another question: Can you fill the rest of the card up with Pix and flix?

Re: Venus memory card issue
i have having a similar problem i think. but it isnt working after i used 164 MB out of a 2 gb card. when teh last song that i can put on tries to go on the phone just lke shuts off and says charge complete. but i should be able to put on more songs then that even if i do have the half of the card thing becuase. have of 2 gbs should be around 1000 mb. so i dont know why the rest wont work.
