I just purchased a lg shine on a telusmobility contract. Can I use my downloaded mp3's as ringtones? I am told that telus has disabled this phone from doing that. Is there a work around for this. I have several ringtones saved to the memory cadr but I can not set them as a ringtone !!! Help !!!!

I think first you copy into the phone then you can set as ringtone. If you already try this then I think there is no solution for this.

Re: mp3's as ringtones on my lg shine?
Sure, its easy. First you've got to get the mp3 on your phone, then go to it in the mp3 menu and choose set as ringtone.

Re: mp3's as ringtones on my lg shine?
obviously you two don't use telus.
telus has blocked users from setting .mp3 files as ringtones. apparently for copyright reasons (yeah right). the real reason is to make you purchase 20 second ringtone clips from the telus website for up to $5 a piece. they make a lot of money doing this.

Yes I have the Shine with Bell Mobility and I have the same issue. It won't let you set the mp3 as a ring tone which I dislike immensely

I have the shine with at&t and have no problems using mp3's but they have to be under 300kb.

Re: mp3's as ringtones on my lg shine?
i have a shine though at&t and i can use my mp3s as long as they are small enough files.
i suggest you use phonezoo or zedge website to shorten your music tones.

Re: mp3's as ringtones on my lg shine?
* turn the phone on
* put it in "Mass storage" mode if it isn't already (Menu, Settings, Connectivity, USB connection, select "Mass storage", make sure that's ticked)
* THEN (not before), connect it to your PC via the supplied USB cable. (It doesn't work if you connect it to your computer then turn it on)
* open your file manager e.g. My Computer, you should see two extra drives - one for the phone, one for the memory card (even if you haven't inserted a card). Oddly on my system the first drive letter is for the miniSD card, the second one for the phone. See the screenshot below of the sorts of folders you should see on the phone
* you can now drag and drop files (e.g. MP3s, JPG wallpaper) from computer to phone and vice versa. See below for more on the Shine folders.

Re: mp3's as ringtones on my lg shine?
It's an old thread, but it's easy to add ringtones (even though Telus disables it).
1) Download & install Bitpim
2) Connect your phone using the USB cable provided.
3) In Bitpim, go to Edit>Settings, set your "Phone Type" to "LG-VX8700", and "Com Port" to "Auto"
3) Check View>View Filesystem
4) In the folders on the left, click on Filesystem, and navigate to brew>shared
5) Add any MP3's you wish to use as a ringtone to the "ringtone" folder. You can also add pictures and video to the appropriate folders, or retrieve any photos or video's taken with the camera from the "mypicture" or "myvideo" folders.
6) Reboot your phone, and the added content will show up in in the ringtones (or picture/video) folder.
