password on vx8700

so my cousin obtained a vx8700 from his "grandmother's friend." i'm not sure how valid his story is, but in any event, i've contacted verizon and the ESN is not blacklisted. he is unable to supply me with the last 4 digits of the previous owner so i am left with a phone that is locked.

so my question is, is there any way to reset this thing back to factory condition by possibly reinstalling the OS?

i'm thinking of just selling this thing for parts, but i would like to get it in working condition as its flawless and has a nonblacklisted esn.
