For all you bitpim enthusiasts i mean no harm.. but for those who'd like ringtones but are rather cautious to "hacking" i have a free 100% secured safe way to get your favorite tones straight to your LG voyager, EnV and EnV2, Lg Dare, and many others.

    Necessities:
-LG phone that supports standard music and sound files
-Music trimming software (look up recordpad for instance)
-USB cable connector and MicroSD Card and Adapter for computers or laptops
-Song you would like to make a ringtone

    Procedure
-Locate Mp3 file you would like to make a ringtone with from your computer

    -Open Music Trimming software

-Open mp3 file in the trimming software

-highlight the preferred duration of the ringtone on the screen with a maximum duration of 30.00 seconds starting with where you wish the ringtone to start and needless to say ending where you wish it to end
*you might consider using 29 seconds because converting the file to work on your phone sometimes lengthens the file a few milliseconds so if the file is a full 30.00s it might turn to 30.12s and be unusable*

    -Click Trim.

-You should now be prompted to a screen with you 30s music file THIS WILL BE YOUR RINGTONE if you do not like it restart the procedure before continuing

    -*Not Required BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*
Id personally recommend that you have the file "fade out" at the end so that your ringtone will not make an awkward or abrupt stop when it plays on your phone. Doing this will make it much like many of your song files where they fade out at the end to make the transition between song and completion a not so sharp one. If your computer skills dub you crafty enough to do this procedure id recommend it(ITS REALLY NOT THAT HARD) you simply highlight a portion of the tone where you wish it too start fading (id suggest 1-3 seconds before the tone completion) and select the "fade out" or "wave out" key on your software. This will make it so that the sound frequency will dim on a length by time ratio coming to a halt at the end and once again makes the tone much more pleasurable and easy on the ears. Once again this is not a necessity but is highly recommended.

-Save the tone as anything you will be able to locate easily (i.e. "(songs name) ringtone") and in a place where finding it will be a convenience save the file as an .mp3

-plug your phones USB or your MicroSD computer adapter with microSD card in it into your computer

-Locate the file on your computer and drag and drop it into an appropriate folder on the card or phone respectively if using the cable connect to transfer data then go to Main menu> settings and tools> Tools> USB MASS STORAGE on your phone

-If you connected via USB disconnect your phone If you connected via SD disconnect you card and put it back into you phone

-go to the "SOUNDS" menu (on the voyager its main menu>settings and tools>4. Sounds settings>2.call sounds) *if you put the tone on your card you may have to transfer the tone to your phone preceding to this and if you actually use a card you should already know how to do this.

-locate the "Sound" and see if it works

-if your tone works as desired, Send a pic/video message to yourself with the sound file as an attachment and provide some text doesn't matter what it says

-once you receive the text open it go to options>save as ringtone

CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE GOT YOUR OWN BRAND NEW PERSONALLY RINGTONE BY YOU FOR YOU
*you may also send these tones to your lazy mooching friends who aren't as computer savvy
pm me with any technical difficulties and happy crafting

Hey..I really would like to get free ringtones like the way you explained it in your post. Although I know nothing about computers and don't really know how to do this. Do you think you could send me ringtones? I have an LG Dare.

    Re: Free Ringtones Without Bitpim!

This is a much easier way to make your own ringtones and then send them to your phone:

If you are able to receive picture and video messages, this will work for you. Go to magix.com and download the free download of Magix Ringtone Maker 3. You can create any ringtone from any music you have. In Magix, click on "my music". Left click the song you want to use. When it starts to play, double left click the song and it will move down to the edit section. Edit to about a 30 second length. Once you have created a ringtone, at the bottom of the program click on "destination" and then "mp3 audio format". Click "export". A pop up window will show and click "ok". Close out Magix.

Now go to your e-mail and type in your
number including area [email protected]. Attach the file and you should be fine. It will show up to your phone as a picture/audio message. Open the message and the ringtone will begin to play. Click "options" and then "save as ringtone". This is the way I do it with my LG env2. This way you don't have to go on the Verizon website. You will be doing it all yourself and it will all be free. I hope this helps.

    Re: Free Ringtones Without Bitpim!

I just wrote out a whole magilla for another newbie on making and transfering ring tones for the Dare with Bitpim and Ventones.

I had done it successfully when I got my phone last month, but there was a flaw in the phone and Verizon just exchanged it. I am sitting here baffled as to why it didn't work this time. MAYBE it is because the card was in and the files were going to the wrong place. I'll take the card out and see what happens. Glad I came by and read the post, you may have hit on my issue. I'll let you know what happens.

By the way, if the files were going to the card and the rest of my music, I still couldn't find them.

I had no idea you could do this without an interface like Bitpim.
Wish me luck, I'm going in...
    Sue

Well, I am back and still baffled.
I had no problem getting music to my card, the issue is getting the ringtones to the phone; they just seem to be transferred and then disappear. (And the phone reboots inbetween).

I do remember reading that the files had to be .wav and that mp3's needed to be converted. I had done this and still have the folder.

    I'm grateful for any help!
    Thanks in advance!
    Sue

    Re: Free Ringtones Without Bitpim!

    Follow-up to my post

I have everything working fine. I discovered that the ring tones were transferring via Bitpim but I didn't know where to find them. I went into my media and found the ring tones which I assigned without issue.

Nice to hear "Etta James" sing "At Last" when I get a voicemail.

    How cool?

As for the above instructions avoiding the use of Bitpim, it would be nice to not have to send the tone to the phone thus avoiding a charge.
    I Sprinted to Verizon.

Now go to your e-mail and type in your number including area [email protected]. Attach the file and you should be fine. It will show up to your phone as a Pic/Video/Voice message. Open the message and the ringtone will begin to play. Click "options" and then "save as ringtone". This is the way I do it with my LG env2. This way you don't have to go on the Verizon website. You will be doing it all yourself and it will all be free. I hope this helps.

Everything up to this point has worked fine. Have the song, trimmed it up, put it into my sounds, texted myself and it worked. The only problem is that the keybo 9100 does not have a setting in the options of the text to "save as ringtone." There is"save picture" "save sound" "save quick text," nothing about saving as a ringtone. I have spent about an hour opening every possible thing in the phone, there is nothing about saving or moving to ringtones. If anyone has any information could they please PM me. It would be so appretiated. I havn't found any other way to get free ringtones on this phone aside from using Bitpim which I will not use. Could someone please send me a PM.
