how would you bypass the PIN lock on an LG Env2?

bought off ebay it says that the phone is PIN locked and they do not know the pin. it also says that it is reported as lost or stolen...will i get in trouble for having it?

i plan on unlocking the phone so i can use it with AT&T so i guess my second question is does anyone know how to unlock it or if those places online where they do it for you actually work?
