LG Renoir

Going to NYC soon and getting the Renoir but I have a few questions:
1. When it unlock it will the Wifi be the same? eg. Have the same speed
2. Where could I buy this phone? I would rather it be unlocked when I got it so I don't want to buy it with the big phone companies eg. Verizon
3. Can A-GPS be turned off, so I can just use GPS?
4. I know A-GPS costs but does GPS cost? What if I downloaded some maps?
