My rumor touch always had the cruddiest service, I blamed it on Sprint. Then my internal antenna broke (I'm assuming, I lost all service). I searched all over the phone for an external antenna port and found something on the back, behind the plate, above the battery. It had a rubber seal over it. I asked LG Chat what it was, they said it was an "accessory port". I asked what I kind of accessories I could put in it, and they said, "accessories that hold the phone", which makes NO sense as it is behind the back plate. I decided to stick a guitar string in there (closest metal to me) and bang! 1 bar. 1 bar is all I ever got in that room, and I couldn't in all my life get the string to stay in there. A couple days latter, I stripped a cheap copper wire, which was a little more stiff and thick, and put it in. I fed the wire through the speaker holes on the back plate, and after about 20 times, got it to stay in the port. I was in the room where I got the most bars (rarely 2) and I had 4 bars! A 50 cent piece of copper works better as an antenna than lg's! I have to say I'm shocked at how stupid that is. Could they not invest a buck or two for a real antenna? Anyways, I'll post a pic of the copper wire latter, and I think I have a picture of the port. If you have service problems with your rumor, I would certainly try this.

reading this over, I found that it's very confusing haha. Anyways, the point is, a cheap piece of copper is way better than lg's antenna.

I'll believe it - if LG put that much extra copper in every phone I'm sure they'd be losing money.

I can believe it, it's all about the profits. End user experience sucks? Oh well. Luckily my LG Optimus V gets decent signal.

    good point.

Of course it would have been better if you can find something that will look better other than a copper wire sticking out of the back of your phone. But hey, good for you that you have figured this out and it worked perfectly.
