Tethering

How to Create a Mobile Hotspot

Mobile Hotspots allow you to utilize your smartphone's internet connection in order to access the web with other devices, via Wi-Fi. (Depending on your carrier and contract, tethering might be disabled, or it could charge you extra)

  1. While on the home screen, drag down the notification bar
  2. In the notification area, tap the Settings icon (shaped like a cog / gear)
  3. Under the "Connectivity" section, press on "Tethering & Networks"
  4. Select "Mobile Hotspot"
  5. Enable mobile hotspot by tapping the checkbox next to it
  6. Set up a password. (Highly recommended in order to avoid unauthorized connections)
  7. Press the "Save" button
  8. Once the authentication process is complete you can connect other devices to your Mobile Hotspot!

Manage Data Usage

Enable / Disable Mobile Data Connection

Disabling your mobile data network can come in handy in multiple scenarios. If you have reached your data allowance you can disable data connectivity in order to avoid extra charges. Additionally, while in an area with poor data coverage, you can disable this option in order to increase the battery life of your smartphone.

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" capacitive key
  2. Select "All settings"
  3. Tap the "Networks" tab
  4. To enable or disable data connection, press the On / Off switch. Once prompted, press "OK".

Setting a mobile data usage limit

In order to avoid exceeding your data allowance, you can set a mobile data limit. To do so:

  1. Press the "Menu" button from your home screen and access the "Networks" tab by following the first 3 steps above
  2. Tap on "Mobile data" (the text itself, not the On / Off switch)
  3. Use the graph bars in order to set a data usage limit according to your needs / allowance*
  4. Tap the "Limit mobile data usage" checkbox to enable the option
  5. Press "OK" and you're done!

Note*: As prompted by your smartphone, the data usage measured by your handset might differ from your carrier's methods of measuring data. My advice is to set a data limit that is a bit lower than your actual data allowance in order to leave room for possible measurement errors and avoid unexpected extra fees.
