This is a guide that will allow you to root the AT&T LG G2 in order to be able and flash custom ROMs on your device. Before proceeding, please read the bullet points below.

IMPORTANT – READ THIS FIRST!

  • This tutorial is meant for the AT&T LG G2 with the model number "D800" only! To find out if your smartphone is the right model number, access the "Settings" menu and go to "About phone"
  • Do not attempt to apply this guide to other LG G2 variants or other models
  • Once you have rooted your device, you will void the smartphone's warranty!!!
  • Before proceeding, make sure that you have the latest LG USB Drivers installed, otherwise the root might not be applied successfully
  • Before proceeding, you need to enable "USB Debugging" mode. To do this, open the "Settings" menu, tap "About Phone" and tap "Build Number" several times, until a message regarding "Developer Options" will appear on the screen. Go back to the "Settings" menu, tap "Developer Options" and make sure that "USB Debugging" is enabled
  • Disable any antivirus / security software on your computer before proceeding. These types of programs can interfere with the rooting process
  • The LG Companion software should be uninstalled, if present on your computer
  • Before rooting, back up all the data on your device
  • Your smartphone's battery level should be at least 60-70% before proceeding. It's very important that your smartphone will NOT shut down during the process
  • Do not skip any steps
  • Rooting a smartphone is an advanced procedure that may have repercussions. You can't hold the root developers or anyone else responsible if your smartphone is damaged / bricked in the process.

Rooting the AT&T LG G2 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

  1. Using your computer, download the necessary root package by visiting this link
  2. Extract the contents of the archive on your desktop
  3. Connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable that came with your handset
  4. Open the folder where you have extracted the zip file
  5. Launch a command prompt window in this folder. To do so, press and hold "Shift", right click an empty area in the folder and click "Open command prompt window here"
  6. Enter the following command in command prompt "abd devices" without the quotation marks
    • This will verify that your smartphone is successfully connected to your computer
    • If a serial number appears, then you can continue to the next step
    • If a serial number does not appear, you need to re-install the right USB drivers, or check if the USB Debugging mode is enabled (review the bullet points)
  7. Access the root package folder, and launch "root.bat"
    • Press any key to continue, just as the new command prompt window will instruct you
    • Your smartphone should now be detected. If so, go to the next step
  8. Unplug your computer from the PC
  9. Access the "Developer Options" menu on your smartphone and DISABLE "USB Debugging" mode. After several seconds, re-enable "USB Debugging" mode
  10. Connect your LG G2 with your smartphone again. Press "any key to continue" and wait for the root to be applied
  11. Close the root command prompt window once the root is applied. After that, go back to the previous command prompt that you have opened at step 5. In this window, enter the following command lines:
    • abd shell
    • su
    • id –after this step, the following line should appear on the screen: "uid=0<root> gid=0<root>" without the quotation marks. This confirms that the root has been applied correctly
  12. Confirm that you wish to install the "Superuser.apk"
  13. Assuming that the root doesn't stick, you can try to download and install the "Superuser" application from the Google Play Store

The root should now be successfully applied. Congratulations!
