WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will restore it to factory settings, and all your personal data stored on the internal memory will be deleted, including custom ringtones, downloaded apps, contacts, images, downloaded content etc. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

Master Resetting via Settings Menu:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Personal"
  3. Tap "Backup & reset" and mark or clear the check boxes next to "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"
  4. If necessary, tap "Backup account" to create a Google backup account
  5. Tap "Factory data reset" and review the warning message
  6. From the pop-up, choose whether you wish to "Erase SD card" as well
  7. When ready, tap "Reset phone" > "Erase everything"
  8. Tap "OK" to confirm

Master Resetting using Hardware Keys:

NOTE: Use this method of resetting your device in case your smartphone crashes, freezes, is unresponsive and otherwise prevents you from applying the factory reset via the settings menu, as explained above.

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. With the G3 powered off, press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" keys at the same time
  3. Keep pressing the buttons until the phone vibrates. When that happens, release the "Power" key but continue pressing the other two
  4. At the "Android System Recovery" menu, release all hardware keys
  5. From the menu, press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  6. Press "Power" to select the option
  7. Navigate to "Yes -- delete all user data" using the "Volume" key and press "Power"
  8. Wait for your smartphone to apply the factory reset
  9. At the "Reboot system now" screen, press "Power" and wait for your device to reboot

Updating Your Smartphone to the Latest OS Version:

NOTE: Once you apply a factory reset, all the previous software updates on your smartphone will also be removed. The handset will run stock OS (or the same version of Android it got released with). To update your smartphone to the latest software version available:

  1. Ensure that your smartphone is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  3. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "System"
  4. Tap "About phone" > "Update center"
  5. Tap "System updates" > "Check now"
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions in order to download and apply the latest update available
