Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings" and access the "General" tab
  3. Tap "Battery" > "Battery saver"
  4. Set the feature's switch to "ON"
  5. Tap "Turn battery saver on" to customize how the mode works
  6. Select the desired battery level at which the mode turns on automatically
  7. Mark or clear the check boxes associated with the power saving mode options
  8. For more options, tap the "Settings" icon next to "Screen Timeout" and "Brightness"

Change the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap the "Display" tab
  3. Drag the "Brightness" slider to the left and set it to a lower level
  4. Access the "Display" tab again and tap "Screen timeout"
  5. Select a lower timeout duration like "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS:

NOTE: in order to maximize your phone's battery performance, it's recommended that you disable all connectivity features when they are not in use, especially GPS and Wi-Fi. To do so:

  1. From the home screen press "Menu"
  2. Tap "System settings" > "Tethering & Networks"
  3. Clear the "Mobile Hotspot" check box
  4. Press "Back" and return to the "Settings" menu
  5. Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Location access"
  6. Clear the "GPS Satellites" check box
  7. Return to the home screen and drag the "notification" bar down
  8. Tap the "Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth" tiles to disable these features

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings" > "Mobile data"
  3. Press "Menu" and mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Change the Sync Settings for Apps:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Swipe to "Personal" and go to "Accounts & Sync"
  4. Clear the "Auto-sync data" check box
  5. For more app-specific sync settings, tap the desired application(s)

Minimizing Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: While you might not use certain 3rd party apps that are installed on your phone, these unused apps can still affect your phone's battery performance, if they perform processes in the background. As such, you should disable or remove unused 3rd party apps.

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings" and swipe to "Device"
  3. Tap "Apps" and select an application
  4. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app
  5. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall"

Keeping Your Smartphone Up to Date:

NOTE: Smartphone manufacturers and carriers sometimes release new software updates that can include fixes and / or improvements to your phone's battery performance. As such, it's recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date. To check for software updates:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and go to "About phone"
  4. Tap "System update"
  5. Press "Check now". If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it

NOTE: If no updates are available, following the steps above will not have any effect on your phone's battery performance
