WARNING! Master resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the device’s internal memory. This includes downloaded content, photos, ringtones, contacts, apps etc.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Under “Personal” tap “Backup & reset
  4. Check the boxes associated with “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore
  5. Tap “Backup account” and if necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to add a new Google account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset
  7. Optionally, check the box next to “Erase SD card”. WARNING! Enabling this option will result in the deletion of all personal data store on the external memory.
  8. Tap “Reset phone” and press “Erase everything” to confirm
  9. Tap “OK

Master Reset via Hardware Keys (Recovery):

NOTE: Use this method of reset in case your phone crashes, freezes or is otherwise preventing you from factory resetting it from the settings menu.

  1. Make sure your phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold the “Power” and “Volume down
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, release and press the “Power” key again (Keep the “Volume down” button pressed)
  4. When the “Factory data reset” screen appears, release all hardware keys
  5. From the recovery menu, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Yes
  6. Press the “Power” button to select the highlighted option
  7. From the “Erase all user data and restore default settings” screen, press “Volume down” and select “Yes
  8. Press “Power" to confirm and wait for your phone to reset and reboot

Update the OS:

NOTE: It’s recommended to keep your phone up to date. You should also check for software updates after a new master reset. To do so:

  1. Make sure your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Tap “Apps” while viewing the home screen
  3. Tap “Settings" and then swipe to and tap “System
  4. Tap “About phone” > “Update center
  5. Tap “System updates” > “Check now
  6. Assuming a new update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it on your phone
