WARNING! Master resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the device’s internal memory. This includes downloaded content, photos, ringtones, contacts, apps etc.
NOTE: Before master resetting the LG Magna, ensure your personal data has been backed up. To learn how you can back up data on the LG Magna, follow this link. For a full guide on how to restore data, visit this thread.
Master Reset via Settings:
- Tap “Apps” while viewing the home screen
- Go to “Settings”
- Under “Personal” tap “Backup & reset”
- Check the boxes associated with “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
- Tap “Backup account” and if necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to add a new Google account
- Tap “Factory data reset”
- Optionally, check the box next to “Erase SD card”. WARNING! Enabling this option will result in the deletion of all personal data store on the external memory.
- Tap “Reset phone” and press “Erase everything” to confirm
- Tap “OK”
Master Reset via Hardware Keys (Recovery):
NOTE: Use this method of reset in case your phone crashes, freezes or is otherwise preventing you from factory resetting it from the settings menu.
- Make sure your phone is turned off
- Press and hold the “Power” and “Volume down”
- When the “LG” logo appears, release and press the “Power” key again (Keep the “Volume down” button pressed)
- When the “Factory data reset” screen appears, release all hardware keys
- From the recovery menu, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Yes”
- Press the “Power” button to select the highlighted option
- From the “Erase all user data and restore default settings” screen, press “Volume down” and select “Yes”
- Press “Power" to confirm and wait for your phone to reset and reboot
Update the OS:
NOTE: It’s recommended to keep your phone up to date. You should also check for software updates after a new master reset. To do so:
- Make sure your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network
- Tap “Apps” while viewing the home screen
- Tap “Settings" and then swipe to and tap “System”
- Tap “About phone” > “Update center”
- Tap “System updates” > “Check now”
- Assuming a new update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it on your phone
