Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “List view”
  4. Swipe to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  5. Tap “Battery saver” and turn the “Battery saver” switch to “ON”
  6. You can customize how battery saver works, clear or check the boxes associated with the available features (and select a battery percentage at which battery saving mode enables automatically)

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Access “Settings”
  2. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “List view”
  3. Swipe to “Device” and tap “Display” > “Brightness”
  4. Drag the brightness slider to the left
  5. Tap “Screen timeout” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Disable Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth:

  1. Open the apps drawer and tap “Settings”
  2. Tap “Menu” > “List view”
  3. Under “Wireless Networks”, tap “Tethering & networks”
  4. Tap “Mobile Hotspot” and tap the Hotspot switch to “OFF”
  5. Return to the “Settings” menu
  6. Tap the switches associated with “Wi-Fi” and “Bluetooth” to turn these features off
  7. Under the “General” tab in “Settings”, swipe to “Personal”
  8. Tap “Location” > “Mode”
  9. Select “Battery saving (Networks only)”

Disable Background Data:

  1. Access “Settings”
  2. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “List view”
  3. Tap “Mobile data”
  4. Tap “Menu” and select “Restrict background data”
  5. Tap “OK”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can improve battery life by changing the sync settings to sync less data.

  1. Tap “Apps” and go to “Settings”
  2. Swipe to “Personal” and tap “Accounts & sync”
  3. Clear the “Auto-sync data” check box
  4. Select an account
  5. Change / disable / minimize the sync settings for the selected account

Minimize the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Third party applications can affect your phone’s battery life even when you don’t use them – assuming that the apps perform regular processes in the background. As such you might be able to improve battery life by disabling or uninstalling unused third party apps.

  1. Go to the “Settings” menu
  2. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “List view”
  3. Swipe to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  4. Access the “Downloaded” tab
  5. Tap and hold the desired app
  6. Tap “Force stop” or “Uninstall”

Switch from 4G to 2G:

  1. From the “Settings” menu, swipe to “Wireless Networks”
  2. Tap “Tethering & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Enable “Use only 2G networks”

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: Some software updates can include improvements to battery life, thus you should always keep your phone up to date. To check for updates:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Switch to “List view” if necessary
  3. Scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “About phone” > “Update center”
  5. Tap “System updates”
  6. Tap “Check for update”
  7. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it
