WARNING! When you factory reset a smartphone, all personal data on the device’s internal memory will be lost, including media files, ringtones, contacts, downloaded content, apps etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the reset. To learn how you can back up data before the reset, visit this thread. You can also find instructions on restoring personal data on this thread.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Swipe the “Notification” bar down on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Access the “General” tab if necessary
  4. Tap “Backup & reset
  5. Tick or clear the check boxes linked with “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore
  6. Tap “Backup account” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen steps to sign in with, or create a Google account
  7. Tap “Factory data reset
  8. At the prompt, choose whether or not to “Erase SD card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data on the SD card will be deleted
  9. When ready, tap “Reset Phone” > “Next” > “Delete all
  10. Tap “OK

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or doesn’t allow you to reset it via settings, you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. At the “LG” logo, quickly release and re-hold “Power
  4. When prompted with “Factory data reset”, release all buttons
  5. Press “Volume Down” to highlight “Yes
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. At the “Erase all user data and restore default settings” prompt, highlight “Yes
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and wait for your phone to reset and restart

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you have reset the phone, it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Drag the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Access the “General” tab
  4. Scroll to, and tap “About phone
  5. Tap “Software info” and check if any software updates are available for download
  6. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the updates. NOTE: This process will require a reboot
