weird texts from unknown number

A couple weeks ago I sent a text to my friend and a few minutes later I got a reply from them. Then about 45-60 seconds later I got another text from an unknown(but local area code) number that said the exact same thing as my friend's reply had been. It freaked me out and we called the number; a girl answered and she said that she also had metropcs and had not sent any texts, and I also did not know her. What in the world could be going on, has anyone else had this happen?

It was probably just a glitch in the system.
