This may sound silly, but after I cleaned the lens with a soft cloth really well, the camera auto-focuses much better, and takes pictures faster because of it. With the barcode app, it can actually read the barcode now without trying to focus several times. Who knew?

Update: I read into this a little more and figured out that it is actually software related. If I set the date on the phone to yesterday the camera didn't focus correctly. So, it sounds like there is a routine in the code that uses a time stamp that isn't written correctly. It sounds like it will be fixed for sure in the Dec 11th update.

Re: Fix Autofocus on the Camera
Believe it or not, I found an article on AndroidGuys.com that explains what is going on
From the article:
'There’s a rounding-error bug in the camera driver’s autofocus routine (which uses a timestamp) that causes autofocus to behave poorly on a 24.5-day cycle. That is, it’ll work for 24.5 days, then have poor performance for 24.5 days, then work again.
The 17th (November) is the start of a new “works correctly” cycle, so the devices will be fine for a while. A permanent fix is in the works.'
I would like to post the link to the article but my post count is too low so I am not allowed to post any links, but I hope this helps explain things.Last edited by Despairyll; 11-19-2009 at 01:54 AM.

Re: Fix Autofocus on the Camera
Great find!!
Here's the link.
Now, if they would just make the camera software faster, I'll be happy...Last edited by GadgetRick; 11-19-2009 at 06:24 AM. Reason: Auto-merged Double post
