I bought a Razr v3 at Christmas. I was using the phone outside a couple of weeks ago and noticed that there is dust under the screen...and it seems to be getting progressively worse...there are no cracks in the case or screen???? That should not be normal!!! Since Cingular doesn't offer one of those extended warranties, will the manufacturers warranty cover that?? Should I take into a cingular store and see if they can get it fixed through the manufacturer?.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

your phone has a 1 year warranty, so Cingular should at their discretion replaced it through the warranty exchange, i got my replaced like that but not for the same reason..

All new phones come with one year manufacturer warranty. Your provider should replace the phone for you. If not, tell them you are cancelling and refuse to pay cancellation charges since you are disputing those charges for their failure to meet the warranty. Dont let the carrier exploit you.

Call 1-800-801-1101 for warranty replacement, explain the problem, and they will tell you if it is covered or not. If it is, they send you a replacement & you send yours back. If it is not, go to a wireless repair store & they will remove the plate & clean it out for 5 or 10 bucks. How to find a repair store??? Well, they are few & far between, call your local Cingular store & ask if they know of any... you may have to call a couple stores as they are not affiliated. Another option: buy the appropriate tool & get a compressed can of dusting air ($2 @ office depot, staples, etc), remove the plate, dust without thouching the internal components, & put er back on. Please use discression, don't void your warranty by screwing something else up. Be careful not to bump the speaker out of place. Hope this helps

I hate it when people get other people all roused up. Don't jump the gun. The warranty covers what the warranty covers. It is in writing, request a copy. I'm not saying that it won't cover this, but first of all DO NOT threaten cancelling service. You think that rep cares if you cancel??? They All they do is cancel the service & then you are billed a high termination fee. And DISPUTE CANCELLATION CHARGES???? They hire lawyers to cover their tails, so any argument you claim against them is already covered in fine print. How do you argue a warranty that is in writing? Over DUST??? That is due to user/environmental conditions, not necessarily manufacturers defect.... yes, the phone should have been designed better, so maybe they will cover it as a courtesy. But they don't LEGALLY have to do anything that is not in writing. So dispute cancellation charges? You don't pay, you go to collections, your credit is f'd. Boy you'll show them...

In all fareness, i kinda object to your problem with people threatening cancellation. Signing a contract shouldn't be one way, customers shouldn't feel or be TRAPPED by a contract, and factually, they do not want to lose you as a customer, hiring lawyers and even disputing something frivolous as giving a new phone would naturally be way more costly than just giving them a new phone. paying a 185 dollar fine to cancel would lose that company way more money than keeping them on and raking in monthly 100 dollar bills that they somehow legitimitly charge you. And honestly i think they could AFFORD to give out a phone i'm sure they pay next to nothing for to help a loyal CLIENT. People shouldn't feel trapped by a contract..it's a partnership, make them need you, don't get run over by corporate, look out for number one.

Also is there any way of removing the dust without removing and replacing the old cover?

There is a way to fix it yourself...... but I would only recommend doing it if you know what you're doing......
