Dr. Pasquale, thank you for all your technical explanations, you certainly know your stuff! Before I renewed my contract with Cingular I was thinking of switching providers. Nextel and Sprint were out of the question because everyone I know who has a Nextel around here always has poor service and everyone who has Sprint and has been in my house usually only has around a bar of service. I am pretty happy with Cingular for the most part, I always seem to have service in places others don’t, and besides this buzzing problem I have had no issues with call quality. It is just a shame that it has to happen in my house, where I normally use the phone the most. Well hopefully I can at least isolate the cause at some point so I know where it is coming from. BTW my old Moto V60i was actually a TDMA phone, not GSM, so maybe that explains why I never noticed it with that phone.

You're most welcome. I always say that one has to do a lot of testing
to see what networks work the best for where someone actually needs to
use their radio phone. Because I gave up my business landline and had
my original number ported over to my cell phone, it was very important
to have a network that worked at my home office , and everywhere where
I normally work. I admit that Nextel does not cover as much as my old
AT&T TDMA in other areas, it seems to be geared more for metropolitan
areas, but I live in a semi-rural area and it works very well in most parts
of Marin County. There are pockets around here that no carriers work, and
there are pockets where only Cingular works, like Lagunitas. Actually
Cingular American GSM did not work at my house until about 2 months
ago, after I switched to Nextel. So maybe they are adding more towers
and trying to catch up to the old boy networks. It's true every area is
different for coverage. I suspect you might have an electronic ballast
problem, also if you have electronic low voltage dimmers to control your
    florescent lights. Bueano Suarte

Well an update on this, it is not from something in my house, it has gotten progressively worse to the point where it does it on just about every call, louder than ever. It does it outside, in other peoples houses, even in Maine! I have a new phone on the way under warranty, but the lady I talked to told me the new one may do it as well, and it may be caused by too many people connecting to one tower at the same time or some crap like that. Then how come no one else I personally know has this problem? I know two people with the Razr and they don’t have it either. Is it just my number that connects to some ****** overloaded tower every time I make a call. I really hope it’s the phone, because if it is not, I am not living with some ****** buzz on every call I make for two years, and I am going to have to try and fight Cingular to cancel my contract with no fee which is a losing battle, and then hopefully get my phone unlocked and go to t-mobile which I should have done in the first place!

My phone has a slight buzz (I don't even know if you could call it that) when it's not even connected to a call (my razr) Like sometimes I'll forget to press send when I make a call and I sit on the phone waiting for it to ring and I can hear a noise like I've connected with someone but it's just dead air. I don't know if you can understadn what I mean but I would like to see if any other razr users have noticed this????

Pretty sure mine has something similar, it does not sound like a buzz though, more like a whine. Also if you put your ear right on the keypad you will hear a buzz. From what I have heard, both of these are normal, but both of these are unrelated to my problem. Also of people mistake these “buzzes” for the ones I am talking about over on the howard forums.

Now it sounds like one of the many GSM network problems, and
switching to T Mobile may not solve it because it's GSM also. Did you
say you live in New York City ? If you do then there are probably
thousands of things that could cause problems, including a congested
new network. Also do you really need bluetooth ? I like the looks of the
RAZR but it is too big for me, not too thick but the dimensions. You said
you had a TDMA V60i, see if somehow you could get your TDMA account
back and test it. You said your friends Nextel phones don't work at your
    house, check out this site,
    http://www.cellantenna.com/Boosters/...l_boosters.com
You might try a Nextel i830 with a 3 watt amplifier at your house, it
will cost a lot more , but if if works well then it's worth it. Let us know
if you can solve the problem.

Other users report similar problems over on HOFO. I myself don't. One user reported his fix for the buzzing. He found that if you apply pressure to a certain spot, the buzzing would go away. He decided to remove the display and have a look. He found where he was putting pressure was above the ribon cable and such. His fix was to insert something that would apply the needed pressure once the display was re-installed. You can search over on HOFO if you want to read the whole thing.

I live in Mass, about 20 mins from Boston. My friend has T-mobile with a Razr and he gets perfect service with no buzzing sounds and he lives less than a mile down the street from me. I do have a V60i, but it works horribly, it drops calls all the time and there will be point where the person I am talking to cannot hear me but I can hear them, I think this is because TDMA networks are slowly being phased out. Its not just my house Nextel’s don’t work, it is all over my area, I have never met someone who was happy with their Nextel around here, that may change when they merge with Sprint though.

I saw this post, I have tried applying pressure to that spot, sometimes it seems to work, other times it does not, it is hard to tell because you can’t really talk on the phone while putting pressure there. I was going to try his fix, but when he said you need to use a hairdryer to heat up the LCD and remove it I said forget it. I am not taking the chance of damaging the LCD and then screwing myself out of getting a new phone under warranty.

My new Razr will be here tomorrow, I really hope it works fine. If it is a network problem, I just don’t understand why no one else I have talked to, in my area, with Cingular has experienced the same thing. Also the fact that it has gotten worse leads to hope it is the phone. I guess I will just have to see…

BTW: Is there anyway that a bad SIM card could cause this?

Well I got my new Razr in the mail today. So far so good, no buzzing noise. But I will have to see, I am pretty sure with my old one it was present from the day I bought it, but it was not too noticeable, only when talking to certain people, and it got progressively worse with time. Good thing I had MPT, took me all of maybe 15 mins to get all my pics, ringtones, phone numbers, ect onto my new phone.

This is absurd, after having my new phone for about a week and a half now, today it starts buzzing on calls again! It seems to be happening just like my last one, not buzzing all the time and not quite as loud but I know it is going to get just as bad. This is unacceptable, I wonder what customer service is going to tell me. I have no doubt that if I get another razr the same problem will develop. I really hope I can get a different phone, I want that Sony S710. My last phone dropped calls all the time, and now I get the razr and it gets perfect service yet it has to have an annoying background noise present at all times, I am ready to give up on cell phones and go back to land lines. Last time I ever buy a form over function product too.
