I have a motorola V551 with a hands free installed in my truck. The hands free is hooked up to an antenna on my roof. I am thinking about replacing my 551 with a razr but I dont want to lose hands free ability or the antenna. I figure I will probably have to replace the whole hands free system. I just want to know if there is a hands free available for the razr that is able to use an external antenna. Thanks

dude...if the v551 can do it...the razr can do it better.
I think
how does your handsfree (such a vague term., please elaborate/specify exactly what it entails) connect to your 551?
If our handsfree is a BLUETOOTH car kit...then YES your RAZR supports it.
If it's some other hardwire cable that connects to the 551...then NO the razr won't support it as it doesn't have a similar connection (only mini-usb)
If your handsfree is plugged into the stereo plug., then again...NO.rAzR doesn't have that.
nemore q's?

The kit I have is the professional install kit (dont remember the model number). It has a box that mounts under the dash and an hang up cup that connects to it that the 551 goes in. My roof antenna plugs into a cable on the hang up cup. I was almost certain that I was going to have to replace the hands free system. My only question now is, is there a hands free available for the razr that I can still use my antenna with? Thanks for the reply

You may want to try one of these for your car. This will work with the Razr.
My humble opinion, however, is a different cell phone. The Moto Razr is nothing more than a thin V551. They do the same exact things.

The handsfree you linked me to doesn't look like it has an external antenna connection. I live in the mountains of northern California and the antenna has helped my reception a lot in some areas so I don't really want to lose that. What other phone do you suggest? Im a Cingular customer. In my area we are limited to Cingular and Verizon.

Thank you for the rude reply. As I said In my response, the phone sits in a hang up cup and connects to the control module under the dash. I didn't say that the phone connects to the module via a cable because all of the "Professional Install" kits that I have seen for the 551 use a cable. I know that all of the ones that use the hang up cups connect via a cable that connects to the bottom of the phone. I hope that was enough effort for you.

You said SITS in a cup. What does that mean., I could only assume, Frankly it could be some BT cup or something,
Now that you said it connects via the bottom of the phone, If you have a usb cable-basically that end of it is on the bottom of the cup, and the 551 clicks into that thing right?
If that's the case, then you're SOL. The RAZR doesn't have anything other than mini-usb on the side.
Good luck.
effort appreciated

Don't worry about it, I had never seen anything other then the units with the cable that attaches to the bottom of the phone. I'm sorry for the frustration and also sorry if I came across as rude. After some more research I have found a vehicle mount for the razr that is going to be released at the end of this month. The mount hard wires to your fuse box and connects the phone to an external antenna. This coupled to a bluetooth hands free will suit my needs just fine. Thanks you for all the help and your effort is also much appreciated.
Now I just have to pick out a bluetooth hands free. Any suggestions?

Dunno what you've found., but my friend found something on fleabay that is as follows.
Bluetooth device mounts somewhere, patches into sound system, microphone (to be) installed somewhere in the car.
All you do is (after you've paired your cellie with your car's BT kit)
1) approach your car
2) You're BT kit links up with your cellie
3) You throw your cellie anywhere in the car, or just keep in your jacket/bag/whatever///take off.
4) start listening to tunes
5) call comes in, if you want to answer, music cuts, car speakers turn into speakerphone, and you use the provided microphone.
This is one ridiculous set up because frankly the kit is ~300+1-2hours labour installation.
Why not just BUY A BT HEADSET 30-200bucks or more actually, and be able to take the headset everywhere. If you buy the kit, you'll inevitably want to buy a BT headset for when you're NOT in the car.
Other thing that I'm not sure about is...IF YOU HAVE a BT headset paired with your cell...I think EACH TIME you get in your car, you'll have to disconnect your BT headset, and connect with the car's BT kit.
