#1 | | Junior Member | Does anyone know what the dimensions of a picture caller id are? I want to maximaze my space without causing the gray borders due to "wrong" dimensions...
can't find anything remotely useful in the manual...
so anyone know, or an easy way to find out?
(Want to know more about the outside display... although they are both displayed as "thumbnails" .. I feel like they are same ratio)
thanks

#3 | | Junior Member | The inside/outside screen dimensions are known and not in the same ratio.
When using picture caller id, the picture shows up as a "thumbnail", and looks to me like the same ratio inside and out. I want to know what the dimensions are of this thumbnail displayed when getting an incoming call ... on the outside screen or inside screen or both

#4 | | I hate spammers! | There is pretty much no way to find out this information unless you contact Motorola's Tech Division. Suffice it to say, the inside screen on the Razr is 176x220. The size of the "thumbnail" will be proportional to these dimensions.
As for "maximizing space", I don't know how many pictures you need for your contacts, but I have over 40 pictures, all 176x220, stored on my phone; along with over 40 MP3 ringtones, and have used less than 17MB of memory (53%). Where you can really "maximize space" is with the MP3 ringtones, not necessarily the wallpaper pictures. The average MP3 file is between 200-300Kb, and the pictures are less than 10Kb. You really can't shrink the pics much farther than that!
I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but, unfortunately, I really don't think there is an answer to your question.

The reason I wanted to know is because i created a test picture which fit the inside screen, and when I looked on the outside, it had "left over space"...
and it bothers me more with wallpaper. It gets cut off on the outside display...
I know not much you can do with wallpaper... figuring they ARE different ratios... but I thought the caller id pics could be made suitable for both

#6 | | I hate spammers! | I do have a Razr; the V3c from Verizon. I must have been mistaken, I assumed that all versions of the Razr had the 30(ish)MB built in memory.
As for what you are trying to do... because the proportions are different for each LCD, there is NO way to make 1 image size work for both displays. It is not mathematically possible. You can either creat an image that will work for your external display (which seems to be the whole purpose of this exercise) or deal with the picture getting cut off.
Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.

I guess I can just pick a dimension that seems to "work" best, but actually.. I have no way to prove it at the moment but I do feel that the CALLER ID PICTURES are the same proportions inside and out.

The images ARE the same proportions, but the LCD displays themselves ARE NOT the same proportions. Therefore, one or the other will not fit correctly. You will either have "left over space" or the image will appear "cut off" in the display.
It seems to me that you are more interested in how the image appears on the external display... I would suggest that you resize the images to fit that display and call it good. You will make yourself crazy trying to get both screens to look the same, when, by their very nature, they cannot look the same.
